I tried that yesterday. Initially, it showed the 20% discount, but that dropped to just under $4 on my intended $100 purchase just before I made the payment. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago, when they had a 15% sale and I spent about $400. I think I got $3.15 that time.

Well it worked for me. Actually it gave me 20% twice, for 40% off. Guess I better send them an email.

There is nothing to feel bad about. The Soma site is just glitchy. I tried deleting/adding the promo several times and figured out that if I drop the eggplant Newbaum's tape, the discount worked properly.

repechage Next time, try adding/removing minor items. I placed the order when it worked correctly, but I noticed that upon one attempt, I had a nearly $100 discount on a $130 order. I'm not recommending being dishonest, but their site is pretty terrible when it comes to the promotions.
