1997 Trek UAV handlebar bracket
Hello,
I just got this 1997 Trek UAV ii and I don’t recall if these handlebar brackets are for support to stiffen the bar, or to attach stuff to.
The bike looks to be in like-new condition. For now I just plan to ride it as-is. I’m not sure if this model has the occassional issue where the c/f main tubes sometimes un-bond from the aluminum lugs or frame joints.
thanks for any input.

That's for support, mostly used by MTB owners that wanted riser bars. I thought of those as gimmicky. I've had them on a couple of bikes. They are like a sway bar on your muscle car front end.

Here is a pic of the whole bike nighttime cell phone flash is not the greatest)

Nice UAV in great condition!
Beware of that front brake hardware -- that square head of the cable anchor should point forward, sitting in the square pocket, with the 10mm nut facing rearward. I know nobody likes the Bicycle Correctness Police, but I wouldn't want that to work its way out or...perhaps worse...fray the cable inside because it's not seated correctly and fail on a hard squeeze.

Thanks for the detailed catch. I will check the rear as well before I ride it.
