Triban RC120 Gravel - brake upgrade.
The brakes on this bike are simply put horrible. I would like to actually be able to stop and not slowly come to a stop if needed.
What do you guys think I should look into? Swap the entire brake system, and if so with what? Will just getting different pads solve the issue, again what pads?
Thanx for any suggestions.

Have you set them up per mfg specs? Box stores sometimes rush assembly or just don't know what they are doing. Did you bed them properly? Contaminate them inadvertently? Most folks are happy with TRP Spyres if you choose to replace them.

I have the bike for a year now. It was all fine until recently where no matter how hard I squeeze, its just slows down. Never mind locking up. Stark difference from my road bike Shimano system.

The review mentions that brakes are a low-point.

It might be as simple as the pads being worn out, or the cable might need adjusting.
Normally I would suggest an upgrade to hydraulics, but in this case it might be worth upgrading the bike.

The brakes are the Promax DSK, which - like most mechanical disc brakes - are single-sidedly actuated. The brake outers are Jagwire’s KEB-SL compressionless model - which is good to see as cheaper housing can really negatively impact mechanical braking performance.

Promax brakes on Treks were recently recalled. I wonder if this model was as well?
