On our Oregon Rectangle tour we saw a herd of cows walking beside the road. I knew it was time for their afternoon milking, but looked ahead and couldn't see the barn. Soon we came up to a culvert that went under the road.

Like finding the winter gathering spot of the monarchs
If by "monarch" I mean every gig scooter and bike in the county stuffed onto one destination.

Gathering of the geezers of metal, four days of...something
To their eternal credit, festival has a bike valet enclosure at the entrance, and no on-site parking with maybe three of these drop spots for gig bikes and scooters. Lucky them, it's not raining, 94F yesterday. Riding a hot 15 when I spotted the gathering.

ever thought about a little house with a nice view of the Mississippi river?
![](https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikeforums.net-vbulletin/2000x1333/img_1686a_st_louis_mississippi_river_water_intakes_at_chain_of_rocks_36187920bbe13c987a600ba601ccb292ab2982ac.jpg)
well, it's not a house or any sort of dwelling. It's actually a water intake for the St. Louis water system. It's located near the Chain of Rocks bridge....
![](https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikeforums.net-vbulletin/2000x1333/img_1695a_st_louis_chain_of_rocks_bridge_across_the_mississippi_river_dd699ad511042befcbfb62fe0465bb9cc4231bfc.jpg)
There's another one nearby, but with a different style...

The bridge itself is closed to motor vehicles, and is now a bike/pedestrian facility. Definitely a nice way to cross the Mississippi!

In St. Louis, there is a MUP that runs from the Gateway Arch downtown up to the Chain of Rocks bridge (shown a couple of posts earlier). Along this MUP is a mural depicting a few aspects of the Mississippi river and St. Louis...
![](https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikeforums.net-vbulletin/2000x1333/img_1700a_st_louis_riverfront_trail_mural_f11c2af75c679a97be0f037519ce3725150c3f90.jpg)
... and in the category of "bikes approaching bridges"....
The McKinley bridge crosses the Mississippi not too far north of the Arch. It used to carry some rail traffic, and had tracks that curved off to go south to the rail yards in the downtown area. One of these tracks has been converted to a MUP to bring bike/pedestrian traffic up to the bridge. It's got to be the most elaborate MUP of this sort that I've ever seen (which isn't a lot). Part of the upgrade was to include some artistic curved elements into the original square framework that supported the elevated tracks.
Pretty cool, although I don't think it gets much bike traffic at all.

Buckhorn Draw, SE Utah,
2 Cultures lived here approximately 1000 years apart. The first group 'painted' these pictograph figures high up on the sandstone cliffs. Then about 800-1000 years later, a second group 'pecked' or chiseled the hearts out. These are petroglyphs. Bike tour from I-70 60 or so miles west of Green River, UT, then north and west to Castle Dale, then back. 2 nights, 3 full days, self supported. Beautiful area with excellent roads... gravel bike or touring bike with 35mm + tires work just fine.

this is not something you see everyday a trolly and a light rail crash into each other. Have not heard if it was driver error or some hardware error yet. the bottom pic shows the interest.

I saw this today when @gugie and I got to the top of the road an the north side of the Canby Ferry:
![](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53354703635_70b4b9c56b_b.jpg)
I didn't take a picture of the drop off on the other side of that telephone pole because I thought I already had a good one. It's about a hundred foot drop almost straight down through some trees to the river from there. Here's a picture randomly pulled from a Google search the car above is right around where the sky is peaking through the trees at the top of this picture.

Andy and I were in agreement that had he not hit the telephone pole, that car would have gone over the cliff just past it.

Kind of an amateur effort. The airbag didn't even deploy. Tell him to try again.
