Octoginta, in Lawrence Kansas.
Pretty much running on empty, the last SAG stop.
Drove from OKC to do the annual Lawrence KS bike club Octoginta ride. A cool start, 45 degrees, but warmed up to 78. Lovely ride, lots of SAG stops, and compared to the roads around Oklahoma City, really nice! And Kansas isn’t flat!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to post in this thread. Other than commuting, which I started a couple months ago, today was the first noteworthy ride since a crash early this summer. After dropping off the car for a service, I rode through downtown Oakland before taking a diversion up to Treasure Island and the midpoint of the Bay Bridge. From there, a meander along the bay trail back towards home. Probably a little shy of 20 miles but it felt great to be out on a beautiful cloudy day.
UPDATE: Wfter I got back, I went out with my daughter and got a delicious slice of pizza and cold beer. When I got the call that the car was ready, I had to keep the Italian theme going, so I took the De Rosa for the pick up.

Sunday, I must admit, I wanted road miles with only a few cars. So, … 6 mi Crystal Mt descent ( with a 6 mi grin), then = not too many miles on the 410 highway, and opposite the traffic flow into the Natl Park. Arrive at FS70. Shed a layer, hide the backpack, ride unloaded. 
At Crystal Mt ski - base area
Call me an early riser, I did not sleep well.
Oh yeah, 30 miles mostly gentle downhill, but luckily my turnoff was closer.
Just a mossy rock barrier roadside along the White River.
Some of the drainage, construction almost finished roadside, to keep water off the road from winter’s streams
Trailheads where I used to start FS Ranger walks. Just off the hwy
This is the end of pavement on FS70 - beginning of the unpaved section up to the Pacific Coast Trail at Govt Camp and over the historic Naches Pass trail
End of the line for salmon, on a White River tributary. Thousands more still hard on going upstream.

@curbtender Nope, did not make it down the hill. I’ve got a triple on the Colnago, so the 17% grade sign wasn’t too much of a deterrent. I was curious to see all the development since I haven’t been on the island in years. However, I had some other engagements and time prevented further exploration.

On Sunday it stopped raining long enough for me to get in 36 miles up in the eastern Catskills. I haven't had an opportunity to ride that distance since August! It was a nice crisp day, the autumn foliage is just starting to turn so hopefully I'll catch more if the rain doesn't come back.
On this route I head north for about 15 miles along the Catskill Escarpment and turn east along a farm road with large chicken production houses and corn fields.
Looking back at the Escarpment.
This little wetlands near Kiskatom is about the halfway point, where I sometimes stop for a snack and drink.
There's a lot of mountain streams and springs in the area and they were running high and fast. Kaaterskill Creek goes over this legde and then takes a 90-degree bend down a long chute to a drop at the appropriately named High Falls. There are many places with that name upstate...
I always enjoy the view at Blue Mountain Reservoir, and on Sunday the yellow excavator in the background was a cool accent point.
The reservoir is about 8 miles from home and just down the road it started to shower. There's a little church nearby with old covered stalls that they use for flea markets when I waited for it to pass. The last bit to home is uphill, it's about a mile of mixed climbing with 5-11% grade to my driveway so i need to have something left for when I get there.
Every time I get on my Mercian I smile. This bike fits and feels better than any other. It reminds me that riding is a joy.

Got out again today and while it was worth it, relaxing isn't the first word that comes to mind. There was a lot of these decisions..
Not all my choices were optimum. Right out my door I got gassed by a crop duster. Then I followed the nice fresh blacktop for a couple miles where the road work was stopping traffic. I sat there for 10 minutes and rode back and the decided on a different destination. I zig zagged a bit to stay in the trees to avoid further aerial assault, sharing the no shoulder side roads with all the other redirected traffic including corn trucks, all the while trying to track the dusters by ear. But I made it out to the fish pond and back. I snuck in a little product placement as well. I don't know what it says, but it tastes good...
P.S. Not that it matters, messing with Google Maps, this was a about 17 miles. I'm going to attempt a 35 miler soon, which was a standard ride on a 12 speed a couple years ago. The low geared single speed is realy easy on my knees, but tougher on my back and hands, so I might play with the bars a bit.

First decent ride on the 1985 Norco Magnum GT - waiting for Nitto Noodle 48 cm handlebars along with khaki coloured " leather " tape and a V.O. front canti rack as well. Tires are Rene Herse Barlow Pass EL 38mm. Not sure about fenders yet. Think it also needs a leather saddle. Also took out the 1970 Gitane TDF which, even with Vittoria Rally 25mm tubulars the ride is quite good. I should replace them with a pair of Challenge Stradas which provide more comfort but are more prone to getting punctured.

Travelled from Sacramento to Davis on Amtrak to ride the Davis Randonneurs' Vintage Populaire. Great group cool bikes. Garage Queens to parts bin builds. All functional with strong riders. Good stuff.

Just my regular commute—4 miles up in the morning, and a downhill return on my way back. It was raining lightly in the morning, so I took my one bike with fenders.

Stock coastal loop for a couple of hours before a press up the last hill to catch the bakery before five o’clock closing. 2005-ish Masi slightly rearranged with PMP titanium seat post in place of Look Ergo carbon, and some Kool Stop salmon brake pads for the sake of the shiny H Plus Son TB14s on Record hubs.

Rat rod Trek "Rek" outing...
Took the rat rod modified "Rek" for a nice ride in the forest today. Don't know how I managed it without 29er wheels, disk brakes and 160mm of suspension at each end🤣 The lowered bottom bracket height was not an issue and the bike rides great for something "obselete" and 30 years old.
Was fresh dusting of snow on the mountains and hills today so cool....spring a bit slow to warm up here in southern New Zealand.

Just another day for you folks but a big day for me. The weather and my fitness came together so I decided to ride my age yesterday. Drove to Oaks, PA and got onto the Perkiomen Trail then just cycled like a crazy person, up, down, back and forth on the great network of trails there until I passed 73 miles. I'll be 72 yrs old at Christmas so I've punched that ticket. I alway do this ride in October when I'm as fit as I'll be all year. I've not done the "ride your age" in a couple of years so it was nice to get back to it. I felt really great all day but sure was tired last night.
200 hundred year old Schuylkill Navigation canal. Nice ride under the trees
So many good trail choices around here. The Raleigh Pro was a fine companion all day. Strong, silent, reliable and comfortable over numerous different surfaces.

Enjoyed a leisurely 25 miler yesterday.
There's a cool finely crushed granite path along a creek not too far away.
It's terrific but only about 1/2 mile long.
I wish it was at least 20 miles long.

I rode my Rivendell Sam Hillborne and got in a few errands along the way along and passed a few ghouls, goblins, skeletons and other such creatures.
Scary!
There's a cool finely crushed granite path along a creek not too far away.
It's terrific but only about 1/2 mile long.
I wish it was at least 20 miles long.

The endless warm fall continues, after a miserable hot summer. Went for a nice 33 mile recovery ride after the Octoginta. One nice thing OKC has done with tax for city improvements (in a red state) was to build bike paths, including a nice 15 miler along the North Canadian river. Built some low water damns, so it has water year round. Rode the 53 year old Charlie Roberts, nice ride.

Headed up to Vallejo for coffee. The old frontage road through Pinole was open. They are replacing the sewer pipes under the bay trail and this road had been closed off since the eighties. Stopped at a new coffee shop in one of the old officers quarters at Mare Island. It is called "The Quarters".
