Oh. Well, that's my opinion. I think people who like rusty piles of crap but find it necessary to hide behind the euphemism "patina" are suckers.

Somebody here has a lot of patina on his soul ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Such ugliness...
On the Dutch forum of fiets.nl there is someone who is very much into the world of Gios Torino, with for example some pictures of a recent ride in Italy. https://www.fiets.nl/forum/viewtopic...981&start=1284
People here might enjoy the photo's too.

I would have expected that these new GIos bikes would be more expensive.
Are they still made in Italy or are they made in China?

It says 'Designed in Italy' on the head badge so .... anybody's guess where they're actually made.
#56
Yes, when they say "Design in XXXXX", It usually means it is built in another country......

I'm all for this - but for it to remain transparent, and so as to not draw the accusation of counterfeiting (not that anyone would be duped), you'd need to call it something like the 'Giosuffy'. Gotta nice ring to it, I think.

That's sort of why I thought that State 4130 geared bike was a winner. It's obviously made in Asia, but when I looked into it further, they may have shifted production of it to Taiwan and no longer China, which to me is an important distinction. Given that if any of these legacy type bikes aren't overtly stating where they are specifically made, you are right - we can make inferences here. Unlike many I don't mind the straight fork, threadless fork, or single chainring of the State, and at $490, seems like a fantastic bang-for-the-buck compared to some of these others, especially if made in the same place. Grab the State, throw some Ultegra RD and FDs on it from the co-op for $30-$40, and a pair of GP4000 IIs while your at it, and you've got a sweet cheapo ride.

Yup, many legendary Euro brands like Masi, Austro Daimler and Colnago, get their bikes built in China these days. Whether they are try 100 percent Euro designs, we might never really know. But as long as the product is good, it's pretty hard to argue agsinst where these bikes are made.

I have not referenced Austro Daimler.
Gios has a split personality, maybe even fractured- one half Europe only with what looks like Euro sourced and Asian sourced for European distribution (maybe just Italy?) then the other half Asian sourced and what appears to be everywhere else.
Masi also has a complicated production and distribution arrangement.
“Of the Vigorelli” and the brand as managed by Haro, who really has retrenched since the pandemic. Maybe long term they are going to be OK, watch where demand is surfacing and jump without a bunch of stranded inventory.

So now I'm getting bombarded with adverts for the Gios. On sale for Christmas!
I suppose I deserve it.

I was recently reading about that distinction and that bicycles from Taiwan are, in general, superior to those of China. Largely due to quality control and pride of workmanship.

I import bicycle grips from Taiwan, and while they look nearly identical to my Chinese competitors, they are superior quality, made from a higher-end engineering polymer. They are also twice the price.
