Yeah, even though I prefer watching baseball over fütbol, the idea that baseball is more interesting because you can keep score is very odd. As is the idea that baseball is more of a "thinking" game.

You don't think cost is a factor? Nonsense. That would mean that anyone who has the desire to own a Ferrari (or, in your words, "has a higher level of taste and refinement") should be able to fulfill that desire, without issue. Hmmm...I don't know what world you live in, but that's just not economically realistic for most people, regardless of their level of desire. I've been lusty about Ferraris since I saw my first Dino, when I was a kid. I don't expect that there is a time in my life where I will ever be able to own one.

On a side note...I had conversation with a gentleman who has the means to buy any car he chooses, and personally owns a large and notable collection of spectacular cars. He thinks Ferraris are over-rated and poorly built. You might have heard of him...Jay Leno.

That's only one very small part of "scoring" a baseball game.

It is a thinking game, but there are a lot of subtleties that are easily missed. The battle of each pitch is fascinating when you start to understand about pitch-calling theory/approach, and recognize how well (or not) a pitcher is executing what is being called. For me, the excitement is in the anticipation of the multitude of different things that can happen on each pitch.

Older brother was a multi-sport star athlete. He got recruited by the Pittsburg Pirates, but he turned them down. "The game's too boring."

He instead went to college on a football scholarship, destroyed his elbow in a scrimmage game. Career over. Ex-athelete at 21 year old.

"Scoring" in baseball is not just what you see on the scoreboard. It's the record-keeping of how each individual play happened. I spent a LOT of years doing it for my kid's softball teams.

Sports (among other things) can easily look "silly" by people who don't understand the game. I don't know much about futbol, but know enough about other team sports to recognize that there are probably a lot of little things going on that have a much bigger effect on the game than I am aware of. Players aren't running around randomly and without purpose.

If an athlete is craving a game of constant action, baseball is not going to be very fulfilling for most of the positions on the field. This is one of the reasons why my kid was attracted to being a catcher - lots of action.

EDIT: To be fair, football has a lot of standing around, too. In broad terms, you're either standing around or sprinting. Using the same broad terms, a lot of baseball is the same.
