Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah. My cousin's kid (kid? He's probably 50!) did a Century on Zwift. I don't know how he managed it.

When I have to do a longer ride (like yesterday and today), I look for routes with some rollers and some short (1//2 mile) to medium (2 mile) climbs, just so I remember to get out of the saddle. It's not a problem IRL, because, well - here's the profile of my usual Sunday route....

Another windy day here, so no big ride for me, maybe tootle around town a bit...

Yesterday's wind not nearly as bad as some locations in the Sierra Nevadas but I damn near got blown over coming around the corner of a building once.

I'm down. Eastern European cottage cheese is delicious, and a little different from American cottage cheese. I love 'em both of course. It's hard not to love 99.9% of the cheeses out there.

If they make one with bacon on it for a couple bucks more I'd likely wanna go with that option.

Nice couple of hours riding around the neighborhood. Clouds were present and got sprinkled on a bit but not bad. I cut through this park to the creekbed.

There is water from the dam up there. They'll turn it off pretty soon.

After fooling around down there I climb back toward home and cut through a different park. This one was a V.A. hospital until the 1971 quake.

Did a little climb above the park.

Blue sky?

Second breakfast for Mrs. F and I on a rainy Sunday morning in Eugene, OR.

We got to spend most of the day with our son yesterday. We will have dinner with him and his GF tonight, and take a drive out to the coast together on Monday.

Oh boy. Watching this '70s disaster movie, with commercials. Think the marketers who made this one could have imagined that people would be eyeing that wood-pane goodness 45 years later?

Those look delicious. There have been times I've wondered if you can still get those without a shrimp cocktail and antipasto on em.

It destroyed 3 hospitals in this corner of the valley. The old V.A., a large, new county facility which wasn't completely finished, and a small private hospital where I worked as a dishwasher.

Mrs datlas and I wanted to go for a walk since it’s sunny and 64F out. We have lovely preserves in the area but with recent rains they are super muddy. So we took a walk on the local MUP. It was quite crowded with walkers, joggers, a couple roller bladers, and LOTS of cyclists. Some were clearly newbies and/or families with little kids, but some were “serious” cyclists kitted up and zooming by us at 20MPH.

I felt like yelling at them to ride on the road where they belong.

There were also lots of e-bikes. The trail says specifically “No Motor Vehicles” but I suppose e-bikes don’t count even though they have a motor.
