Campagnolo 8 speed cassette compatibility
I just bought an older bike with an 8 speed Campagnolo cassette, and wondering whether the cassette, when worn, will need to be replaced with a Campagnolo cassette (or, since they don't appear to make them anymore, a Miche one?). I'm asking because I put a Shimano 8 speed freewheel on my son's bike (also Campagnolo shifters), and it seems to run smoothly. The price difference and availability is the big appeal of course.

Unfortunately Campy 8s is an orphan. They changed the spline pattern with the move to 9s.
Shimano won't fit, and for years the last resort was Miche, but it's been 25 years and I don't know whether they still make those cassettes.

I'm using Miche with my Campagnolo 8 speed bike. Shifts perfectly. In fact, it's a mixed cassette I made from two Miche Cassettes to make a 12-28. I got them from Bike24 a few years ago.

Have run one of these for years:
Shiftmate 1 for mixing wheelsets or Campagnolo & Shimano 8, 9 & 10 shifting combinations

There is another aftermarket company making Campagnolo 8 and other cassette counts called XLC. So getting a replacement really doesn't appear to be an issue.
