Schwinn Sports Tourer question
The bike is a 1971 model, it came with a Campagnolo Gran Turismo rear derailleur, which is not working.
What replacement I have for it?
I tried a Cyclone GT long cage, but it is not good also. The chain adjustable screw is not doing anything, because of the different shape of the hanger.

I have an ST I haven't got around to working on yet, but it has this dropout (Huret?) and came with a Shimano Crane ( Schwinn LeTour) GT derailleur.

Another option, not popular but I like 'em, is the long-cage Allvit they used on the Super Sport. Not as good as a Crane, but better than the Campy IMHO.
Alternatively, can you say why your (OP's) Campy isn't working? Are you sure it can't be repaired?

Probably that Huret washer #759 should be the solution.
It is one on ebay for 17$, from Greece, looks expensive for me.

Yeah a Crane, or the Schwinn-branded Le Tour version, shifts well, fits the existing dropout, and was original equipment on some Sports Tourers ('73?)
Another option, not popular but I like 'em, is the long-cage Allvit they used on the Super Sport. Not as good as a Crane, but better than the Campy IMHO.

And both red "C" are scratched badly.
It is ugly.

Don't throw it away though, offer it up here, in case someone needs it for parts. Two broken derailers can make one good one if they're broken two different places.

the Campag Gran Turismo rear mech is OEM for the cycle model and year
not surprised to read it is not working
every used one which comes through my workshop has had the same problem
there is a thin sheet steel washer with a round hole out from the centre which serves as as an anchor for the spring end of the upper spring
the washer has a single pointed tooth which fits into a keyway on the gear mech's mounting bolt
the spring is too strong for this washer and strips its tooth very quickly
the part was never offered
one odd thing about the Gran Turismo rear mech is that while it got into the catalogue there was never a parts drawing
one exists however in the Schwinn Dealer Catalogue which our member [MENTION=226065]Metacortex[/MENTION] has onhand
thought had it on me hd but seems to have vanished
spent a few minutes searching this and another forum for it without success![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

The Schwinn-modified Huret dropout doesn't play well with derailleurs designed for Campagnolo-type dropouts. Besides the Crane GS and its Schwinn-approved "Le Tour" version, a 1st generation Campagnolo Rally would probably work, or a Huret Duopar. Otherwise, you'll need to either modify the dropout or cobble up an adapter.

But this assumes that you're willing to deal with the resulting paint damage. If that's not acceptable for you, a compatible derailleur as suggested above is the suitable answer.
