duanedr did an awesome job of documenting the repair process on his flickr! Essentially he carved out the one piece headtube and slid in a new tube. So the once faux lugs are now lugs proper. ha! Aesthetically correct to the original and should be stronger than the original!

Oh man I am impressed and proud of you for going the extra mile(s) to bring back an old friend. We should all have machines we would do that for.
On an unrelated note, my son lives at the Battery, and I just restored an old TREK for him to ride around on. He'll get it Christmas

Hopefully he puts it to good use! He's spitting distance from the Silver Comet Trail as well as some other cool paths in that area that lead over to Sope Creek!

I lived close to the other end (Alabama's Chief Ladiga Trail). We would ride to the state line and invariably hang out with the Georgia riders

Everyone got a great kick out of it! It's a lot faster than it looks! It doesn't have a very fast/aero riding position, but it does have a very strong riding position. I can sit in any draft all day long with it!

2,114.8 miles post repair! Bike spends most of it's time with the rack on and with flat pedals, but still occasionally makes it out for some group rides. I've been working on a set of 26" wheels for it, but I've had a hard time taking the 700x38 slicks off of it until I come up with another frame to use that wheel/tire combo. It's just too good.

Man, this is a great story. I really like the looks of the bike, as is too. For me, it's much better than a more generic powdercoat.

Could I ask your height and cycling inseam?
I have an 83 850 I want to build into an all rounder thats the 22 size. I ride a 24 in vintage Trek road frames and it would be great to have another data point.
