Decided to take the day off work today, I was up early so started off with some urban mushroom foraging....
When your local store doesn't have the replacment bulb you need, so you buy what they got and hope nobody notices. Everybody notices ....
There is an old phrase of dotting the i's and crossing the t's, but these dots are crossing my eyes so I'll (full) stop for a tea....
Angular lines, waves and reflections are my next interjections....
...and a big metal fence will keep out me, but cannot hold back the march of a tree...
Homeward bound the wheels keep turning, the rain stayed away what are the chances....
......and old bikes still get admiring glances.

That tree is winning the battle with the fence, and the multi-colored mural has the upper hand on your Merckx.
I wonder how many years running on the tree/fence fight.

Today, once again, I was able to get a ride in before the rain.
My only Italian bike wanted to pose for a portrait in front of the subtle Italian flag on this bridge.
A stop in Little Italy was also in order.
I ran into my friend Jacquie riding her Wonder Bread bike. The bike isn't C&V but the rider has more than enough C&V credentials to make up for it.

Wifey and I rode downtown for a talk and book signing; part of the Virginia Festival of the Book. Rainy and chilly on the way there but sun peaking out for the ride home. Maybe I’ll be able to ride some more later …
Sun stayed out a little bit longer and temps got up above 60 so ended up going back out for 18 climbing miles on the Tommy. Don’t think I’ve posted pics of the Cobalto/Simplex upgrade so here ya go. Apologies for the grime build up.
Top of one of the funner descents in town. University of Virginia hospital in the distance.

Weekend rec ride.
Mt. Fuji view point.
The skies were overcast.
I couldn't see even Tanzawa mountains, nearer than Mt. Fuji.
Japan was hit by cold wave last week.
Sakura Matsuri, cherry blossom festival, started all over Japan, but sakura buds paused to grow.
Weather reports say sakura will bloom on the following weekend.
They were supposed to bloom this weekend.
This cute stall sells wata ame, cotton candy.

My only other C&V bike is my rather heavily laden Grand Jubile commuter that I don’t ride much aside from to work and back.
What a lovely feeling to be on a nice and light vintage steel bike built from good tubing!

Another terrific spring day in north Texas for riding.
I'm not sure what tree this is but it is loaded with these bright red berries.
Edit...
I just found out it is an American Holly tree.

Warmer and sunny today with again, a lot of wind. Popped out for a quick ride around town, usual route through the middle of UVA Grounds. Last summer they renovated the road through the middle of grounds to make it more pedestrian friendly - raised crosswalks, etc. The project included 100 ft of sweet bike lane.
Here I am at the beginning of the Bike Lane. Way off in the distance by the fire hydrant, if you squint, you can see the end of it.

I missed last weekend for a host of reasons, and had today off so I squeezed in just shy of 25 bright, windy miles. The Falcon had freewheel issues towards the end of last season and hadn't gotten much use so it was up in rotation. I enjoy this bike a lot. It handles really nicely, it's stable and responsive all at the same time.
I'll never stop taking pictures at this spot, the Blue Mountain Reservoir in Saugerties.

A couple of rides today, after a Morel mushroom foray at a local park. First up a test ride on my recently acquired '99 Raleigh M30 Mountain Trail.
Murals in Woodlawn
The next 3 pictures are of a new mural of a local legend, the Birmingham Batman, Willie Perry. Mr. Perry was famous for roaming the roads and offering assistance to anyone who needed it. He used a customized 1971 Ford Thunderbird, dubbed the "Batmobile Rescue Ship". Mr. Perry passed away in 1985, but the car still exists and is in possession of his family.
Willie Perry - Birmingham Batman
Mural on the University Place apartments (UP) on Birmingham's southside
Favorite photo spot at Railroad Park
The second ride was on my '93 DB Sorrento that has been out of commission for a bit. A new sealed cartridge bottom bracket has it road ready again

Always grateful to post this thread
Just riding the same local roads, lately. Stopping less for pics is a good thing - another is being outside spending time on nice bikes.
Trees in blossom everywhere.
Saw this grey with white trim fence. Thought the bike might ‘disappear into the background’, but it is too outstanding.
Almost 25 yo carbon. Still a go-to.
End of ride pic, the knee warmers were falling down. Wish I knew what Bianchi Columbus Formula 1 tubing was in size 59cm. My guess is SL except maybe the chrome fork. Lightweight.

Weekend rec ride
The weather was very good.
But Japan was hit by the yellow sand from China desert.
Visibility was 10km/6mile.
Someiyoshino hadn't bloomed.
Hmmm...
The wata ame yatai, cotton candy stall, was at the same place.
The cherry blossom house was the cherry buds house.
The white roses house was the white roses buds house, too.
It's too early for roses to bloom now, hahaha.
But mokuren, magnolia, was in full bloom.
I took the same pic last year, too.
The weather was good and temp was 25c/77f.
Some flowers were in full bloom and beautiful.
It was a very good cycling day!

darkmoon good to see you out on your Merckx as we start what the Belgian's call 'Holy week', the week book-ended by Tour of.Flanders today (which Eddy won twice) and Paris Roubaix next weekend (which Eddy won 3 times). They are also my.favoirite 1 day races of the year, so I had to take a Merckx out today too and reunite it with some cobbles.
My 30c tyres make them easier than the teeth chattering 23c or even 21c tyres of yore.
I decided to head towards Greenwich, where of course time is measured from. The clocks change and go forward an hour this weekend so we lose an hour, but after the weather we've been having in the UK recently this at least guarantees 1 less hour of rain.
Greenwich also has a long naval history, and nearby there is this nice bit of brickwork paying homage to the areas naval past, some of you salty old sea dogs will know the name of this knot....
And in the grounds of the naval college I notice this statue covered in white tape. I've.no idea what the tape is all about, whether part of an exhibition or some kind of protest.
i schlep up to the Greenwich observatory, but there was not much to observe, no golden chinese desert sand obscuring my.view,, just grey rainclouds...
...but there was a rather lovely C&V sight at the top that made the climb worthwhile, a beautiful old Ferrari Dino GT, such a pretty car. The more modern Ferrari next to it would smoke it on.road or track, but in terms of beauty and which one I'd take home the Dino wins easily.
I then head out to the Thamss barrier before turning and heading back.towards the city.
I.come acress this shopping trolley watering hole, or graveyard, not sure which but there's 4 of them lurking in this pic.
Back home now and settled down for some Tour of Flanders highlights, who has the strongest.legs today.....

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we only get about 7 inches of rain per year. Yesterday's wind may have scrambled my loose parts, but the skies were clear. This morning was a different story.
But I had a ride to lead, so I got on my gore-tex and got out my heaviest cruiser, an early-80s Chicago-forged Schwinn with a chrome finish, tubby tires, and rust-resistant wire baskets, and pedaled forth into the wet stuff plummeting from the sky.
At the park, the crowd awaiting me was... just Steve, my deputy ride leader. No one else wanted to play in the not-warm Easter morning rain. Oh well - at least we showed up.
We splooshed along quiet streets, taking a direct route instead of the more scenic ride originally planned. And arrived at the selected fine dining establishment for an elegant Easter morning brunch:
We were met there by some of the other riders, who recited their excuses for not venturing into the wetness (flat tire, just cleaned the bike's drivetrain, blah blah blah). Still good to get together as my very wet dry bags took a break from the exposure.
If you're wondering why the hi-tech closure on the Ortlieb: the zipper failed several years ago, but the bag itself is reasonably intact, so I devised an alternate office-supply closure method. The Timbuk2 isn't as waterproof, but did the job today.
After brunch, we parted ways, and I rode uphill to home on my 70 lb. beast, my thighs reminding me we hadn't ridden the past 2 weeks due to illness. But it was a quality workout.
All in all, over 21 more miles than I would have put in if I'd slept in. And a good way to finish an otherwise-disappointing month in terms of mileage and conditioning.
And our bunny Sunshine says Happy Easter to all!

I went longish today with a little pep in my step because the forecasted mid afternoon rain had been moved up to early afternoon by the time I started. I got in 40+ , arriving back home as the first scattered drops fell. Many of today’s roads featured on Stage 3 of the C’ville Bike a Palooza in 2021 so some of you may recognize the landscape.
Blue Ridge and rain to the west
Wesley Chapel Rd. Notoriously bad gravel here typically but not so bad today due to the wet spring.
I stopped for a snack and a couple of fellas, hanging out at the other end moseyed over to see if I had anything for them.
This guy (pony I think but maybe a donkey?) was very interested in my Gatorade bottle but I moved the bike away before he could make his move. Head scratches but no snacks from me.

Learning To Fly
Lit outta dt Frederick around 8:45 which is somewhat early for me. First pitstop at 9:30
proceeded to climb the notorious Hamburg Rd.
The first mile of this climb is hellacious!
Had to walk one section but I made to the top.
Back to civilization
Photo Op at Baker Park
Almost home
