Once on highway 99 coming into Oregon City in a horrendous downpour, a truck was passing, spraying with that super sweet truck mist and I was blinded, nailed a pothole with all my weight on the bike. Flatted both tires, put a big ol' dent in the rear rim. I was about 15 miles from home but got things patched up and k-thunk, k-thunk, k-thunked it all the way home.

i have been feeling a little better after some med changes (aka a lot more) and way less miles, so i went for a short ride on the non-e-bike this morning. did about the flattest 20 miles possible here (800 feet) with my hr below 95, power at 150w +/- 10w the whole time. it’s a different vibe for sure, no hammering, not even pushing it a little for a climb, or to pass someone, or to make a light… but still enjoyable. unfortunately it would get super repetitive, there’s just not much variety of “flat” routes here. i’m glad I haven’t sold the aethos yet, but it’s a tough call. it kind of mocks/haunts me with all the amazing memories when it’s not mothballed in the attic.
starting the transplant evaluation process next month, should be pretty interesting.
we’re also moving for the first time in 20+ years, what a mess that is. it’s good that we didn’t do it when I was highly focused on doing 150 miles a week. incompatible.

I rode the exact same route for something like five years in a row, and would still be riding it if the heavy truck traffic hadn’t moved in. No speed bumps for a 20 km stretch.

Perhaps. Not to be political, but I’d never move to a state that places sever limitations on a woman’s right to healthcare.
Ive been setting my kids up for the same when it comes to college. Regardless of scholarships or anything else, I won’t pay for a school in any states that restrict the same either.
It’s also why I won’t go to Oklahoma for the Mid South gravel race- regardless of how great Bobby is and how inclusive his race is, gas, lodging, sales tax etc will all go in part to the state, and as a dad of 2 girls, I can’t justify any financial contribution to a state that would treat them as 2nd class citizens, no matter how small the contribution is.

I was test riding a lo-pro TT bike at the shop when the 21mm 650c tire blew off the rim at ~130psi. Thankfully I was only cruising around the parking lot and nothing on the bike or me got seriously damaged, aside from not being able to hear for 30 seconds after it happened.
