The worst part (when you have fenders) is that there is significant mud deposited at both ends of the tunnel, so things are quite slippery entering and exiting the tunnel. This is why you want to have some skill at track stands and riding slowly. I was in no mood to have to put a foot into that water!

I liked the builder's plate on this little path bridge:

The Steadfast bridge catalog calls this a ‘Keystone Pratt Truss', fabricated in corten weathering steel.

Small, factory-built steel bridges like this have been a feature of American transportation since the 1880s.

Top is a Fuii Del Rey fg conversion. Sandblasted and powder coated sparkle black. Gearing was 48x15.

Middle is a 96 Softride Traveler. Rebuilt completely. After this pic I added Ulterga barcons and a Sugino XD 600 26-36-46 triple w/a 12-36t 9 sp cassette. Ultegra frt and rr ders w/a Sram chain. The rr wheel is a triple walled 48h Omega rim and front is a 36h Sun CR-18 laced to a stock Shimano hub. All spokes are DT Alpine 3. Bags are Ortieb front classic rollers in Denim. Not pictured are the rear.

The bottom is a Bikes Direct Motobecane glass blasted, powercoated and rebuilt w/all new comps. It was my around town bike.

Had to sell them all as I fell in love and moved to New Zealand. Spent the last 9 years rebuilding my collection. All these pictures were taken on the Allegheny Bike Trail crossing the Monongahela River. The 1st is in McKeesport.

I had the pleasure of taking part in the "Rides the Ups and Downs" in Elizabeth, Illinois this last Saturday. This is in northwest Illinois where the glaciers forgot to flatten the landscape, so it can be quite scenic and challenging!

On the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge a couple of days ago near the end of the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City. It’s not an attractive bridge from the lower deck, but the few minutes/eternity it took to climb to the crest were at least blessedly out of the rain.

On the plus side, the shoulders are modern and wide, so that's worth a lot!

in other Peoria bridge news... one of our downtown bridges across the Illinois river had the deck replaced last fall. Part of the work included a dedicated MUP on one side of the bridge! Pretty nice in concept, but in practice it seems to attract pedestrians that drop a lot of glass bottles (some of which have a Jack Daniels label).
A bit of digging around revealed that the city of East Peoria is responsible for maintaining the MUP, so I've been calling them to see what's going on. Had to leave a couple of messages, but did get a call back. Apparently they only clean it when someone complains, so I officially complained.
A couple of days later, and it definitely hadn't been cleaned yet....

I did stop to pick up some of the larger pieces, as I usually do when riding across the bridge.
On the return trip, I avoided the MUP and just rode in the traffic lanes. So much cleaner!!
I'll probably check the MUP next week and see if it has been cleaned. Hopefully the E. Peoria Public Works will have done it. (fingers crossed)

I've been riding in the center of the mup but I feel your pain man. Also I remember touring at that bridge in Edwards while it was under construction. I tried to squeeze in a small spot and caught a bag on a barricade. No fun!

Greetings from the Adirondacks

On the Mill Pond bridge, along the newly opened 10-mile section between Lake Placid, NY and Saranac Lake (my new hometown!), the Adirondack Rail Trail will eventually extend an additional 24 miles (34 miles in all) through beautiful forest and lake wilderness to Tupper Lake. The trail is expected to be completed by fall of 2025 and will provide an amazing travel corridor between the 3 lake towns.

Bridge over the Kerkvaart, a canal used for the outflow of water from the area. The town in the distance is Mijdrecht.

I've posted this short covered bridge before.

It's located in a suburb of North Dallas (Richardson).

I'm on a 51 YO Gitane I fairly recently built up with 650b wheels. The frame with no parts or fork and awful black paint was given to me 5 or 6 years back.

I stripped off the paint and built it up to try it out.

It actually has a very nice ride set up with a fork and parts I had on hand. I like it well enough to opt for powder coating hopefully soon.
