Identify this 90s Miyata Super Cross?
I just picked up this red chromoly steel miyata sport cross for $200 CAD (about $150 USD these days). I don't know much about it and plan to use it mostly as an easy commuter / biking around town with the kids. I do most of my cycling on a roadie and needed something with flat pedals that could handle a little gravel and rear rack & trailer.
I'd describe the frame condition as "good enough" with some chips large scrapes, especially on the underside. I searched for a serial # around the BB to help indicate year but couldn't find anything. It has what looks like an entire Shimano 200GS groupset, including trigger shifters and matching front/rear derailleurs (3x7). Brakes are cantilever with shimano pads. Front hub labelled Shimano Acera HB-M290, rear hub has no markings, 700c wheels. How much of this is stock vs changed over the years?
I'd love to know a little more about this bike and any common maintenance issues I may encounter with the model. I've got the first one already.. some sort of BB issue where the crank is feels rough and ratchety, sort of like a smooth 'jump' when it spins unloaded. I assume this bike has a loose ball BB which I don't know much about yet.
I'll upload some photos after I get my 10 posts under my belt..

I was looking for info on that specific model and I found this forum thread that may give you ideas for your bike: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...portcross.html
For figuring the specific year, start with looking through digital versions of the old Miyata catalogs for what looks like yours. Describing the components as you did was good for helping date it since you can’t post pictures yet, but I don’t know them that well. For the catalog look at decals and components more than color since there are often alternate colors for a year. Catalogs are here:

Looks great and well cared for, but not so pristine you worry about bumping it.
