Ditto all the kudos above. I got a set of CXP-30 rims laced to Mavic hubs (threaded for freewheel) from another BF member. Put 'em on my Ironman. Terrific wheels. We don't have any mountains and the weight isn't noticeable on our mostly flattish terrain with occasional short, steep rollers.
They look sharp too, which surprised me. I was accustomed to classic low profile rims. Sorta the bicycle equivalent to extra wide whitewalls on a classic car.
I might have needed to tighten three spokes once to true it after the rear developed a very slight wobble. Higher profile aluminum rims seem to need much less attention than lightweight low profile rims. My Araya CTL-370 and Wolber Super Champion Alpine rims needed frequent truing.

What, no new posts in 2022??!! Let me sort this out 😁😁😁
ere they are, laced to an almost pristine DA 7700 hubs, on an equally nice, but much less pristine Zunow, trying to see if the colour combination will work. Perhaps not and something black is needed to offset the green frame...although the stickers are of very similar yellow.

I laced a set of R540 36-hole rims to a pair of NOS Shimano 600/Ultegra tri-color hubs. I probably overpaid for the hubs, but since I had them on a couple of other wheelsets, I knew what I was getting. The resulting wheels are butter-smooth, fast, and bomb-proof. They are heavy, but I plan to use them on my Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra rebuild, and I'm not taking any particular actions to save weight on the build.

Funny how perceptions change. These rims used to look very deep to me.

Carbon is lighter. It isn’t a contest as far as durability goes. The Mavic rims are superior. It really boils down to weight vs durability. Plus, I don’t have a set of carbon rims in the basement.

The Kinlin is also alloy, but yeah the Mavics were "bomb proof". Correct me if I'm wrong, but those CXP30's even had eyelets?

Old thread but I was looking up info on my old CXP-30 rims. These came on my 97 cad-3. I changed them out for some long forgotten reason. The cad-3 has been gone for 8 years but I still had the wheels so i put thrm on this 93 frameset I got5 years ago. Still run straight with a lot of miles on them. Never had to true them.

At some point I owned that frame as well as those wheels. Loved the frame, regret selling it even though it only fit 25mm tires max. The wheels, they looked nice but were too heavy.

TFunk. I have never been a big fan of the CXP-30 wheelset but this set keeps moving around my different bikes as they come and go. I had a black wheekset on this Cannondale that looked much better but it is now on another bike I ride more than this one.
