Gravel Ride Pics

That's pretty much the state of roads across the UK at the minute as we've had barely any respite from the rain for the past 8 months or so. It doesn't matter if it's on or off-road, lots of flooding in recent months.

One of my favorite local singletracks on my gravel bike - twisty and trending downhill, with nothing very technically demanding.
However, I did manage to hit something on the trail that punctured my rear tire with a hole too large for just the sealant to plug up - first flat tire on my gravel bike. I stuck a Dynaplug in the hole, but it still wasn't enough, and I wasted a CO2 cartridge discovering that issue. A second Dynaplug along side the first one took care of hole, and a hit from a second CO2 cartridge got me rolling again. I could probably continue to ride the tire without any issues, with the plugs still in place, but with a race coming up next weekend, I ordered a new tire to replace it. When I pulled off the punctured tire, I discovered a piece of wire sticking out inside the tire. Apparently, I ran over it at some point, and the sealant did its job.

Justin - That looks like some great riding in that area. I will be coming through there probably in August. I'll try to get some pointers where to go out there. I worked in the Portland area in the late 70's and I would like to see the changes in the area.

This one's borderline not gravel...did it on one of my road bikes and most of the ride was on pavement. It did have about 10 miles of gravel though, so I'm counting it lol.

Yeah, it's a route that has enough paved climbing to make me feel over-biked on my gravel bike. However, the gravel is just a bit too chunky in spots for me to want to take my main road bike on. My old ultra-compliant endurance bike with wider smooth tires is just perfect.

did some exploring on this access road a couple of weeks ago
but too many nasty bigger rocks scattered under the leaves
also had to stop a couple of times when it appeared the drivetrain was going to consume a hidden tree branch

Couple of snaps from my Seven Gravel Race 2024 (i use the term race very lightly here)
So many amazing photo ops but your either descending at speed where you need two hands, or climbing brutal climbs.

A few pics from last week's rides, while on vacation in Laguna Beach, and exploring new-to-me dirt in the vicinity...
Buck Gully
Bommer Ridge
Aliso Canyon
Cholla Trail - Pretty demanding in the uphill direction
West Ridge - Looking back the way I came

Just Pedaling
I couldn't resist. I had to go back to the trail. It must be my lowly MTB beginnings haha. Got my 25 in and it was a fun ride. This was the smoothest part of the trail. Most of it is covered in roots and rocks. Definitely not meant for a road bike.
