Been busy since 3 AM. Coffee, Pilates, bike ride, dog walk, two course breakfast, cup of tea, shower, watering plants, hanging with the critters.. 87A atm. I feel a nap coming on, but would like to hold off for a few hours, when it will be really hot. T’would be a shame to waste this beautiful weather sleeping.

Just replaced a smashed BOA dial on my MTB shoes. It's actually the second time I've replaced the dial, and I was cheap and used the same lace each time. This time was.... difficult, doing the manual spooling with a very small amount of slack. Gonna have to cut this ride a bit short to get to work on time. NBD, I had planned on going easy anyway and mostly shaking down my MTB before an event this weekend.

I didn’t take a nap, I did a Nescafé shooter instead. Rode into town and did some shopping and then worked on the sprinkler system—replacing heads. And now I am wet and it’s 39C. If I stay wet I will be able to work some more. It’s a trick I hadn’t thought of. There is no end in sight for this infernal heat, except the coming of the rains sometime next month.

Still recovering from COVID. Yesterday's ride was a comfy temp, but I felt like my throat was really drying, like on a warmer day. My HR was higher than I thought it should be for the speed I was managing. Also, I felt more fatigued afterwards than I normally would for that speed. That feeling went away reasonably quickly, though, so I don't worry that I rode myself into relapsing.
I'm still working on the Schwinn Circuit. I replaced the old Cinelli bar and stem with a new Cinelli stem and Highway One bar, and the brake levers have their new reproduction hoods. During the ride I stopped and lowered the saddle a few mm. Much better. Still felt like I was sliding forward. I checked after the ride, comparing to the other bikes with Avocet saddles, and damned if the nose wasn't pointing down a few degrees (not as easy to see with a wave saddle), so I fixed that, and also turned the bars up a degree or two, because they felt JUST a little off.
Hopefully, today's ride will tell me alles in ordnung.

I'm doing this solo because my wife is in Philly for a wedding today. Yes Thursday wedding. because it's cheaper but not for the guests who have to burn 3 days of PTO coming from out of town. I hope the self important, selfish bastards don't mind when we deduct that from our gift. It's cheaper that way. F that noise. Meanwhile Grandma is coming back Sunday night and left Tuesday morning.
Getting F'd over every which way but loose. Roscoe is there for me at least. He's been a champ at putting up with it all.

Mrs. F and I are heading out Saturday morning to spend a week in Laguna Beach, at a time-share condo overlooking the beach (100 stair steps down to the sand). We did the same in March of last year. This year's trip will end on our 21st wedding anniversary, and we've booked the same week for next year.
I'll be taking my gravel bike with 2 sets of wheels - one with 32mm road tires, one with 40mm gravel tires. I'm hoping to get in at least 3 rides.

I will say, the Vig of weddings in that part of the country are not a cheap thing. Those wedding halls in upstate NY and NJ are ridiculous, and have chefs that are regulars on the Food Network. You don't "get to attend" unless you have some healthy disposable income.
I know I've said it before, but I hope stuff gets dialed in soon.

That blackout we had a couple days ago. Turns out most of central Mexico was out. Lots of finger pointing. The president said he had just overhauled the system, and he did build a couple new power plants and got some natural gas lines. We’re told to expect rolling blackouts and brownouts. Today we lost it a few minutes after four, as folks got home from work and powered up their houses. A brownout today, and only for a half hour.
the simple fix would be to just turn the heat down a little bit.
