My ankle has been swearing at me for yesterday's escapade with the Russian sidecar rig. Walking has been a chore. I've been telling my ankle to shut up and to quit involving my hips and knees in this aggression. Besides that, I'm getting things done with the Mercier. I got it pretty much slapped together this morning.
There is a Sedis chain left in the box, along with half a kickstand. The chain could very well be original but I wasn't going to go through the motions of installing a 50+ year old chain just to take it back off to point it towards the scrap bin at a future date.
The parts list looks like this; BB spindle, tires, tubes, brake and derailleur cables, cable housing, and a chain just to get it moving. 700c aluminum rims, a better seat post, saddle, and bar tape if I'm doing it for me.

Juggled some chainrings. I put a Sun XCD crankset on my Mercian when I moved it to hilly country, but the 44 seemed a tad small for a fast road bike. @The Thin Man sold me a 48, and once I installed it on the Mercian I got inspired to change the VO rings on my Mk. I with the 44 and a Sun 34 from my bin purely for the aesthetics, I really like the pattern. The Mk. I is mostly for adventures that include gravel so I don’t usually push as high a gear. I’ll know for sure next time it’s up in the rotation.

Made a few changes to mrs non-fixie's Mercier. Added fenders, a mini front rack, a slightly taller and shorter stem and Nitto B135 bars.
Will shorten the fenders stays as soon as it gets an ok from its owner.

I like. I'm going to attempt an Adirondack chair tomorrow even though wood working and I don't get along well. My Dad likes to say that I can have a guide on both sides of a Skil Saw and I'll still make a crooked cut. Something I could never master.

The curvature of the barrel staves look like that would be really comfortable to sit in. I have a friend who made some Adirondack chairs out of old skis. He left them unpainted, so you could still see the labels.

Well, kept the motto for Outhouse Engineering and Fabrication alive and well for another future project.
The cut lumber. At one point I was thinking of running the whole lot through the chipper, then grabbing a beer.
The kind of finished chair.
Cut my angles wrong because I deducted from 100 in my head instead of the 90 on the protractor. Some poor explanations in the plans but probably 60/40 on me. I'm beat and calling it a day. Tomorrow I'll fill and sand, then Mrs.blkamper can paint it whatever color she wants.
The cut lumber. At one point I was thinking of running the whole lot through the chipper, then grabbing a beer.

On this fine afternoon, I'm rolling up and putting away about two dozenish patched & tested tubes. I may keep a few as spares, but most of these will go to nonprofits. And I still have 8 more bins of untested tubes to go...
I'm also inventorying my stockpile of saddle covers in preparation to make a big order of additional covers to fix up a bunch of sad seats for this summer & fall's bike rebuilding activities.
It's great how a simple inexpensive cover can take a sun-ravaged yet reusable saddle like this:
and make it into something fun, eye-catching, and ready for more years of service.

I inadvertently ended up wrenching on the DeSoto this afternoon.(Last year photo)
As my clutch foot seems to be working somewhat, I wanted to back it out to wash the winter accumulation of dust off of it. First was that the battery needed to be charged. Not a big deal but the first charger I used said "Nope. Not gonna do it. Second was a bad connection/wire on the coil. It started right up after the battery charge, but stalled when I shut the hood. And wouldn't restart. BTW, that hood slams with a purpose. It took a few minutes to find the culprit but once dealt with, the car started right up. Each and every time. Then took it for a drive.
Never did get it washed.

I bought this on my birthday last year, just because it was at a price I could not pass up, and I was curious to try a SC. Purists are likely to hate the build, but I am using what I have, vs seeking out OEM products. I'll use Campagnolo that I have available, but it will be a bit of a hodge-podge, and I don't have appropriate derailleur guides. The repaint kills my desire to try and make this look original.

Follow-up: This was heavily built from parts I had, although I had to buy the bottom bracket guide cable guide, bottom bracket, and I recently got the saddle from purpurite . I think I want to shorten the brake housing a bit, and maybe find some more comfortable pedals for my big feet. I'm undecided on whether I care enough to replace the downtube decals. The saddle bag will likely go, but I like the handlebar bag for trips to the bakery.
Where does one get decals these days?
