I traded some bike parts for bike parts and received a couple older chainrings that I don't know anything about. They're both cottered cranks, older than what I'm familiar with. I was just wondering if anyone can shed any light on these. They cleaned up well enough.

One is half step chainrings, aesthetically appealing to me and maybe it'll only ever be an ornament as I don't have the matching non-drive side crank arm.


The back of the crank arm says 'NA 36', the larger ring is 49 teeth matching the '49' stamp and the inner ring is 46 teeth although I don't see it stamped anywhere.


There's a logo on the front? Looks a bit like a shield, maybe? I don't recognize it... (but then I don't know the period)


The other is a three arm crank and chainrings. I do at least have the other crank arm here. The rings are 52/40. Very few ID marks.


Is that a logo of some sort next to the teeth count?


On the rear, the non drive side crank says 'DX_T' and 'L' just by the pedal. On the drive side crank, it says 'NR' half way along it, just behind the large ring. That's all I can see.


The casting is a little rough in places and the markings are a little indistinct so I'm assuming these were run of the mill/nothing special. Just curious really. Thanks in advance for any help

My Google lens says the first one is a Raleigh. That's all I got for you. Someone who actually knows things will probably be along shortly.

I agree that the top one is made for Raleigh. That’s the Sir Walter logo. Maybe manufactured by Nicklin?

The second one is very similar to a Nervar I'm using.

logo is not Raleigh Industries, do not recognize it, perhaps another reader will

second set is DURAX arms, Peugeot was a decades long customer for these arms, commonly these are fitted with Cyclo of France chainwheels but do not recognize the logo here

Thanks for all the replies! Once you gave me some leads, I found an identical crank on an older BF thread described as a Raleigh-branded Nicklin:


I now see there are Durax arms very similar to my second one, it's also very similar to that Nervar with the bolts coming in on the same sides.

thank you for the correction on the logo of the Nicklin set
would have been banned ages ago if forum disciplined members for posting errors

had been thinking it might have been a logo for one of the TI owned labels

the stamping die must have been very worn to make that marking

does not look like a light strike or like post strike wear

did a spot of digging for the chainwheel logo on the DURAX set without any results

perhaps another reader shall recognize it...
