Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes give him a message for me, like any New York sports fan would tell him, “I got your choke right here pal”.

This is true, but unfortunately, that's just a figure of speech. Gas stoves seem to be on the bad list lately.

More critter content. Saw this female turkey in the backyard today. Not a common sight.

I saw one last night along Canada Rd. I have seen flocks as large as about 20 there, which is pretty impressive to see.

Top tube is probably about right, but he'd need a foot more head tube and seat tube.

our new house has a gas stove. So much better than electric. We hated going to electric when we moved down from Ohio.

I love the responsiveness of a gas stove compared to all the electric stoves I've ever used. BUT I've never used an induction stove. I'd have to replace all my pans except the cast iron and one stainless skillet, though.

The first thought of course is that there is something in the tire. But then I remembered that the two together are the snakebite from a few weeks ago. The one alone is from yesterday.
I have become a fan of putting it in a woodworking clamp for 16 minutes or so immediately after patching. And of wiping it down with acetone before applying the glue.

I have an induction hot plate for my morning coffee and for cooking beans in the pressure cooker. It is very responsive, with the caveat that the temperature adjustments are no more refined than 20 degrees C. I don’t know how accurate a gas stove top is. Might be the same. The only pots that haven’t worked on it are the ones with copper bottoms. All of the stainless ones work fine. The pressure cooker is stainless.

From what I've read, in order to work on an induction stove, a pan has to be magnetic, i.e. it's not enough that it be stainless. I tested all my stainless skillets, and only one was magnetic. It's also got a copper core, so it should be perfect for induction. The others, a magnet wouldn't stick to at all. All my saucepans and stockpots are aluminum, and I have some heavy copper saucepans and sautoirs, which absolutely won't work.

l ended up blowing off today's ride. I was in the middle of working on a new dataset I'd downloaded. I didn't want to try to remember on Tuesday what still needed to be done to complete what I was doing. That, and it's in the low 50s where I'd be riding. May 24th, and it's 53 degrees in Woodside. Maybe I can get out for a ride tomorrow. And Sunday. And maybe Monday.

On the plus side, completing the work on the dataset proved to me that my workaround for what I was trying to do was actually pretty damn good - I only assigned 12 out of 566 samples wrong, and they were the ones closest to the dividing line. So, 1) I may be pretty clever to figure out a good workaround, 2) I'm even more clever for having figured out how not to have to rely on the workaround, and 3) I'm really dumb for not having figured #2 out before spending all that time on the workaround.
