Have you ever been to Chicago, DC, Boston, San Francisco, etc.?
How about London and Paris?
IMO any cyclist who doesn't get it is either highly insulated or in denial.

i think a cyclist that has a good head on their shoulders will get it, but the general reader that comes across it may struggle to get it/accept it.
