I've developed an interest in classical guitar lately so I'm trying to teach myself how to read sheet music for it. I've played guitar for years, but never studied it with any seriousness.
I learned how to read standard notation way back in middle school but pretty much haven't looked at it since, and I've never applied it to playing guitar.
Funny feeling like I'm back in middle school band relearning all the notes and where they are on the instrument. Playing very slowly with a metronome and making a bunch of mistakes. It's fun and frustrating knowing how to operate the instrument but struggling through really basic pieces. Hopefully the note association comes quickly.
Also when I last played anything off of standard notation I was only expected to play one note at a time with my trumpet! Now I've got to manage a bunch!

Very cool abshipp. I have a close friend (since HS) that has played a lot of classical guitar. I even accompanied him once during a performance in college (he had a music minor). I play piano.
I haven't seen him or heard him play in years, but here is a nice one that he used to play. It's not my friend in the video for the record, just some random version that I like.

That's a lovely piece, thanks for sharing!
I've been trying to explore around a bit, there's quite a library to listen to and like with all music there's some styles that I enjoy and others I'm not terribly interested in. At the moment I haven't really heard much involving rasgueados that sounds all that nice to my ears.
What started this interest was hearing this Barrios piece randomly on NPR one evening when I was picking up groceries:

Tour took <45 minutes. While he was touring the chicken plant, I drove out into farm/vineyard country a ways. It's really pretty out there, but of course the grass is already "golden" - dry and ready to ignite. The vineyards are...vineyards. Hills covered in rows of vines, at this point all just leaves. I passed at least 3 vineyards with real estate signs, but I don't know whether that means the vineyard business is in trouble. Traffic was bad enough on the Petaluma - Napa road (12/121) on a weekday so maybe tourism is still hot. Dunno.
On the way back, I indulged in a bit of tourism of our own. When we got to the SF end of the Golden Gate, I took the barely-visible turn to go through the Presidio. The views are spectacular, and TOB was enjoying himself. Then we drove through our old neighborhood - the middle Richmond - past the place we lived for the first 2 1/2 years of his life, then out Fulton to the beach. Didn't stop though.
TOB was taking pics the whole way. He said, "I decided to allow myself to be whimsical", toning down his usual cynicism.

Not sure how to explain what it's like to you westerners. Guess it's like having a lot of tumbleweed to pick up.
Along the road there was an area with several pieces of metal and metal wiring, some of which was difficult to see. It could have turned into shrapnel if ejected by the mower. I'm calling this an act of lawn terrorism.
Lawn.

What started this interest was hearing this Barrios piece randomly on NPR one evening when I was picking up groceries:

I got a hot trumpet track in my youtube feed after another Herbie cut during my evening workout:
