Anybody know what bike this is?

I need a new bike like a hole in the head, etc - but this ad on FB marketplace intrigues me and it’s close by. Looks like it’s been repainted, but the very fancy lugs makes me wonder if it’s anything good? Any Ideas?

Buy it.
You can work on the hole-in-the-head later.

the combination of lug pattern, crown and Alatet headset work to scream "BRITAIN"

if you purchase it measure shell width - a measurement in the vicinity of 66.5 would suggest a possible Carlton identity

there is no shortage of Carlton catalogues online to compare

ends set appears a Cyclo pattern

That stem has the curl to match the head tube lugs! Please buy it so the "family" here can join along and figure out what it is! Or maybe just to relay to one of us who wants another hole in the head.

Front fork?

Is it me or does the fork look like it needs a visit to the chiropractor?

seconded - we all wanna know more! I wrote her a couple of weeks back, but she's out in Flushing and it's too far for me to go when I already have nowhere left to park it around here.

If I had the money, I'd have been up there and already on my way back to Philly.

I think "Carlton" is a good starting point. I was thinking "Holdsworth" but can't easily find a good match. In any case it's worth $110 to find out!

a long shot but there are some features of the headlugs that are reminiscent of some Claud Butler lugs. I think 1940s era, so before Holdsworth acquired the brand.
Once you BUY this bike you can peruse catalogs and maybe find a match? (hint-hint)
Here's an "interesting" illustration of a 1949 Avant-Coureur (?) and Norman Kilgariff's site has more catalog pages from around this late '40s era

Despite those fancy head tube lugs, my guess is that it’s something relatively low end, based on the basic cottered crankset and thin stamped dropouts. I’ve seen low-end made in Taiwan frames with fancy-ish (and thick) lugs, and this looks like one of those. Or hopefully I’m wrong if the OP has picked it up.

in this case I think not: there's too much here that looks like Genuine Olde Brit, and nothing from Asia, but it HAS had later components added plus paint

Cheers, I knew it reminded me of something I'd seen fairly recently.

Here's the 1949 catalogue and it sure looks like
.
(3) An improved version of the C.B. "Bi-laminated" head. - on page 1

Zooming in, I think it’s just the angle of the pic. The fork looks straight to me.
