How much play in cassette is acceptable?
I have a new Giant Yukon mountain bike and yesterday noticed some side to side play in the rear sprockets (basically it wobbles a little). How much play if any is allowed? It is a Sram (sp?) unit. I checked the play on my almost 30 year old Motobecane as a reference and there was none. Thanks!

Hi, Your 30 year old bike probably has a freewheel, which is screwed on, and should be tight. There is usually a bit of play in the cassettes, no matter how tight you make the lock ring, 40 N.m preferably.

ive never really seen a freewheel that didnt wobble slightly when spinning. cassettes tend to stay bolt straight, somtimes their is a tiny amount of play, but nothing compared to your average freewheel.
