Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't you really mean:

Harley Davidson

vs

Every Other Brand of Motorcycle On the Planet?

Is anything quite as dopey as HD guys who think they're superior because they're on a Harley? Hey that's dumber than bike racing guys copping an attitude about non-racers.

Wait, maybe not....

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 18. 16 if you count my moped. Right now I have a 2002 GSX-R600, a '96 Road King, a '58 sporty chop project under construction, an '87 YSR-50 and two pocket bikes, a Cag Lucky7 and a ZPF Eco Flyer.
Cool, someone who can appreciate both ricers and HDs. I used to have a Springer Softail (stolen) and a Ninja (sold). If I ever get another it'll probably be a Triumph (Thruxton or TBird Sport).

patentcad I ride a Trek Pilot 5.2 and a Honda VTX Retro (1800 CC). Wonderful combination. I **used** to ride a Honda Super-Blackbird (CBR1100XX), but (1) my wife told me she felt like a "big fat chicken" riding on the back of it with me 'cause of the way the seating was arranged, and (2) I've come to realize that my reaction time is slowing down and I really don't need a bike that would do 175MPH+.

So, rather than wait until I killed myself or get divorced, I switched to the VTX Retro. Great Bike!

The Trek Pilot is a (very) new upgrade for me, and I already love it dearly!

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 6yrs old (honda 50 with fat tires) and currently own a 2003 Honda VFR in the unique red color (haha). My motorcycle buddies and I visit Deal's Gap pretty regularly and I also used to ride 2up quite a bit .. but now am single.

For those that don't know the VFR .... it is a sport-tourer ... midway between a touring and sport motorcycle ... even though visually it looks like a crotch rocket. Best bike (MC) I've ever owned!

Oh, and I now do put more miles on the bicycle than the motorcycle!

A few photos:

I love riding my motorcycle. But, I tend to lean toward taking weekend bicycling than I do motorcycling these days!

Ride Safe ... on two wheels!

I have a 2000 VFR, just put about 500 miles on it over my weekend on a climbing trip to the New River Gorge. But as with many others, I seem to be riding my bicyles more than my motorcycle, maintenance is sure alot cheaper on my bicycles.

I ride a kawasaki ZRX 1100 bored out to 1109(the zrx is actually a 1050). Lately ive been thinking about selling it and buying a smaller lighter 600 or 750. That new triumph 675 is really something special.

I've been riding bicyles since '01. I've been riding motorcycles since '84. Currently have an '86 Kawasaki Concours, '89 Yamaha FJ1200, '01 Yamaha FZ1 and '02 Suzuki DR200. Owned a few others over the years including a Honda VFR adn Ducati 900SS.

Last year I road 3X more miles on my bicycles. Not sure how to feel about that.

In addition to my Roadbike (and the Comfort bike that got me back into pedaling), I'm riding around on a Harley-Davidson Sportster and a Vespa GT200 these days. In the past, I've owned a Kawasaki (Ninja 250), Ducati (Monster 620), Yamaha (V-Star), and a pair of Triumphs (Sprint RS, Bonneville).

I put more miles on the motorcycles than the bicycles (although the difference is shrinking as I get into shape), but more miles on the bicycles than my pick-up :-)

Some really nice things about bicycles (in comparison to motorcycles):
1. You can change saddles way cheaper.
2. Relief cut outs...

i've had eight bikes since i was 17, but i never understood Hardley Movinsons. Now that i'm older, I've learned to really hate the gangsta wannbe a-holes with the straight pipes.
Congrats to Harley for marketing, but that company should have died in the 70s.

No Campy? I believe some Ducati's, Agustas and/or Bimotas had Campagnolo wheels. My Alfa Romeo (RIP) GTV 6 had Campy wheels. I was quite the envy of my bicycling friends.

They did. Brakes too. I saw a few pictures in the new Ducati coffeetable book my wife got me for my birthday. Campy made wheels for Lamborghini's too.

The world as we know it will come to an end if Campy starts to make angling gear. The worst part is that i would actually buy it. Shimano makes some nice gear.
