How to get an acurate date on a bike?
OK I mentioned it other posts and have some pics of the components. I got the bike from craigslist here are some details I am cooking dinner too so pics will be added later
Frame: CCM
Model: Silver Ghost
Brakes:Weimrann 999(sp)
Tires: 27"
Details: Reynolds 531, No Braze ons for water bottles, 10 Spd, Has a peice of metal on lower part of top tube that I cannot Identify looks like there were two but one is broke off? Again I will add pics later.
SO any guesses to what year so far??
Thanks

The thing under the top tube... might it be a pump peg?
Best way to approximate the date is the serial number and/or component date codes.

Important things to consider are the derailleur cable routing, brake mounting, braze-ons or lack thereof and tubing.

This Ghost is from 1973-1976. Unfortunately, they varied very little during this period. If you want to narrow the year down, post the serial number. Typically, it's on the bottom of the seat tube, on the non-drive side. Also, is it a tubular wheelset? I can't tell form the pics. The broken piece is a pump peg.

I just found this too so I am thinking its a mid 1970's bike IF the components are original

I have a serial number E201893
So since I am planning on repainting the frame I was thinking I should grind down the broken peg so its smooth and do the same to the other? Or would I be better of leaving it as is?
