Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for a stiff Carbon Frame...

I just got a DA groupo w/ the new DA Tubeless wheelset and looking for a stiff Carbon frame to compliment the goods. Im a sprinter at 210lb/5-10" and can generate serious wattage so Im looking for BB stiffness that I deserve. Any pro opinions out there? Anyone with the same build and power output, please help a brother.

Thanks,

The G

After asking multiple sources, the concensus was the Pinarello F4:13. Stiffest BB I've ever ridden... I'm 6'2, 200#. I don't know how serious my wattage is, though...

Here's the thread with my newly built-up F4:13 frame:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=240746

A question, though--what do you mean by "tubeless?"

Thanks Pete, I'll look at the Pinarello model you suggested. The tubeless wheel set has just been released by Shimano. I'm sponsored by them through BMX (aquired direct), so I don't know if it's in the shops but you can run the tubeless tires on these babies! Obviously no velox needed if you run tubes! Less rotating weight...
Thanks brother...

the original madone was a really stiff bike. I havent had the chance to ride a madone SL, but last years madone with the aero seattube was hella stiff. It was one of those bikes that you always stood while climbing jsut cause it felt soo good to feel the bike NOT flex underneath you.

It isn't.............what he is wearing has been stretched to the ending point and what you don't see is his split down the right side seam from which he protrudes!

But I give him kudos for being there!

Nice data! Sweet!

Can you give me the layman's on the lateral and bb stiffness?
How do I assess what is maximal and perhaps what is not enough?
Cool, thank you very much.

specialized has a sheet called the f.a.c.t. sheet & it shows the different stiffnesses between different bikes of all different materials. to be honest, one of the stiffest & most economic frames i've been on is the new lemond min/max platform. you might have trouble just getting it as a frameset though. when it comes to bikes, esp carbon, i'm a look guy. so if you're a sprinter check out the 486. your best bet is to go custom with the new seven carbon frame or a guru.

lateral stiffness / bb stiffness

There's not a whole lot to interpret, if you're a big guy, get the stiffest thing on the list...
If you don't have thousands of dollars to throw at one of the above frames, get a Cannondale caad9 also ranked very well i beleive, not sure why it's not on that list, i've seen other studies that had it included, and it ranked very highly, especially considering it's price.

It's interesting--that was the other bike that came highly recommended as a crit bike for my 200# self. The guys at competitive cyclist recommended it and I was really surprised because it at least has the reputation of being a light climbing bike. Apparently it's really stiff. I didn't get to test ride an R3, but the CC guys liked the handling of the Pinarellos a bit better.
