Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

$10,000 Frame?

I'm sure it's a nice ride and all, but is THIS auction for real?

Team frame or not, Serrota or not, I can't imagine someone paying that much. Good for the seller I guess...

I guess it makes sense that one of the most overpriced frames I've ever seen would charge $3000 extra for the ugly paint job.

Why do you hate overpriced frames and ugly paint jobs?

My guess, is someone placed their bid for $1,010.00 or something similar, and accidentally typed an extra Zero.

Is ebay pretty forgiving about that sort of thing or is it up to the seller to decide?

That bike is ugly. I am not sure that I would be able to make the gut check for a $10K purchase from a zero feedback seller. Scary.

I read on the Serotta forum that the photo belongs to a member over there - who is not tied to the seller. Apparently, a friend of the real owner drove the auction up to end it but it hasn't been taken down yet.

so you're saying it's a scam? driving the auction up like that will get that seller ebay fees to up to the neck.

if that real owner's friend is trying to keep people from sending money... he can simply email all the current high bidders.

No he can't. Ebay recent stopped showing the user IDs of bidders supposedly to prevent scammers from contacting them. Only the ID of the winning bidder is shown AFTER the auction ends. I warned a winning bidder about a phony auction for a Trek a few weeks back where the pictures and description had been lifted from a Craigslist ad. While he was grateful for the heads up, there was no way for me to prevent the seller from contacting the other bidders with second chance offers for the non-existent bike.

You're ignoring how the auction system works...with that logic it would require two different people to make the same typo.
