Speaking of TVs, every RAGBRAI I look for a TV so I can catch up on baseball scores and the Tour.
My next RAGBRAI step is to learn how to party properly. I still haven't gotten that part of RAGBRAI right -- I'm too civilized (and I am afraid my wife will hear about it and kill me -- now who's a wimp?!!?)

I am bringning my wife along this year, so I can't get in too much trouble. Boy, that would make a long ride on the tandem if I get in trouble on, oh say... Monday.
Our group added a new rule last year - The first rider to camp has to buy beer for everyone else behind them.

As my beer explodes out of my mouth!! COUGH!!! Choke, Choke!!! Sputter, tears in my eyes! I gain control, and mutter "What kind of a *&^%$ rule is that??!!" You all got it backwards don't you??!!
Our only rule is, "we are all to meet at the first bar on the left in each over night town...unless a bar shows up on the right first."

Gus, I rode with Bicyclists of Iowa City. Dedicated riders. We had people in the club that would leave so early, they were in camp before the luggage trucks arrived.
So, our rebels decided that the first one to camp buys rule was the best way to slow people down to enjoy the ride (party).

Actually, that is kinda neat! One of the totally awesome things about RAGBRAI is that you can make it your own ride! Ride fast, ride slow, do it twice, doesn't make any difference!! Get out there, and have a little fun!!

Yeah! Whos the wimp now?! We won't tell TT, what ever you do at RAGBRAI stays at RAGBRAI or so they say.
Or so they say, Gus! I'm not really scared about my wife finding out, but I love to blame her!

Here's some interesting possibilities concerning the route
(https://www.geobike.com/geobike/gbmain.shtml)
is the RAGBRAI XXIII (1995) route. The first three days have the same overnight towns as this year. And the last three days of XXII (1994) route
also have the same overnight towns. It will be interesting to see how closely the route follows those two years. The fourth day is a bit of a mystery, I couldn't find any corresponding routes that match.

Does anyone (besides Greenie) have any idea when the rest of the route will be posted?

The RAGRide site for Clinton says route posted on Feb 23. www.bikeiowa.com also listed Mapleton as announcing itself as a pass-through town.
I think your theory is correct. Last year was a similar melding of routes.

If I remember correctly, RAGBRAI 1995 was the year of "Saggy Thursday". That was my first RAGBRAI and I rode it on my Univega Hybrid. If we ride the same route as "Saggy Thursday", I am willing to bet we'll hear about that. What I remember about that day was, besides watching all the full sags passing me by, pedaling DOWNhill just to keep moving. That was incredible! Then we came into an overnight town that had "The Wizard of Oz" as its theme. Scary.

I don't think we'll be repeating that particular route this year. Its overnight towns were Tama to Sigourney, which are way south of Hiawatha. I'm sure there is nothing to preclude the same type of rude ride you describe...OUCH! We will be most unfortunate if the same thing happens on Thursday this year, because it looks to be a long day (upwards of 90 miles or more).

Looks like day one will have some good challenges for us. At least we have 20 miles to warm up before we hit the bumps!

Geez, I'm not even going to train for this RAGBRAI -- it looks too easy. I'll still be passing Gus and calling him a wimp.....
It looks like I am going to miss out taking the OOS bus across Iowa on Saturday. A friend has volunteered to drive us to Onawa and pick us up. I'm liking it although taking the bus is part of the excitement -- but it's also a pain since we don't ride with OOS during the week. We have always had to lug our stuff all over the place until we find our team.

nebill,
I won't be passing you this year. In fact, if you remember I didn't even make it to the get together that we had arranged last year because I failed to realize how slow an adult/child tandem combination travels with all the butt breaks, cornfield stops and general slow tempo. This year, I think my pace will be even more curtailed as I will be on the same tandem with the same stoker, but we will be pulling an interesting contraption behind us with another child.
Here's the contraption:
https://phred.org/~josh/forsale/113-1343_IMG.JPG
Some friends of ours from Austria will be riding with us this year and we are having to arrange the wheels and combinations for the group. So I will be much slower this year due to hauling two kids across Iowa with me generating most of the drivetrain power. I fully expect to have you pass me everyday this year. ;-)
