Scott Sub 20 frame
I've been reading this forum for a while, an now I'm starting to build my first touring bike.
I live in Argentina, so I don't have many choices about frames, parts, etc.
One of the few hybrid frames I could find here is the Scott SUB 20 frame, I would like to know your opinion about it as a touring/commuter frame. I know it's an aluminium frame, that's why I'm asking, because most of the bikes and frames you mention are made of steel.
I've already have a steel bike I use as my commuter bike, but it has 26" wheels. I would like to try a hybrid bike now.
Thanks in advance, and sorry about my english

This is such a sweet bike, I know because I almost bought one. IMHO it's not as much of a tourer as the bike I decided on, a Novara Randonee, but it's still a great bike. From what I've read, aluminum doesn't make the best frame for touring, not very forgiving. The lack of drop bars greatly reduces the grip options
On the other hand, you could add bar ends and it's got holes to mount a rack. I think it'd be a great bike and would have bought one if my commute wasn't 36 miles round trip.

I'm a big fan of the Sub 20 as well-- it's fast and a lot of fun to ride. A very good bike in city traffic because it handles so well (it's a strange cross between a road bike and BMX cruiser)
Not a great touring bike however. you'd be better off with an older MTB

Thank you guys.
I think you are right, maybe I should use my MTB/commuter for touring, here's a pic. What do you think?
I have a trekking handlebar ready to try on it.

I'll build a hybrid for my daily commute (I already have the wheels and some other parts).
EDIT: Something is wrong here. I think the word "J A Z Z" is not allowed...

Your rear cassette seems very small?! I think you will have problems riding up hilly roads.
Please post your gearing setup (i.e. crank 50-40-30, cassette 12-34).

I know I had to change that cassette, but I've been using this bike in my commute and I wanted to try a road cassete. Buenos Aires it's a big flat city.
I installed that triple crank yesterday, before that I had a 53-42 crank. At first I liked this configuration, but then I realized that I was using the small chainring most of the time.

Sweet bike! It looks like it would make a comfy touring rig!
Your small chainring has a 74BCD, which means you can cheaply swap out the 30T size ring for a 24T, which would give you a nice gear for grinding up those hills.

I also have a question regarding the Sub 20. Does it have chainstay mounted disc brake tabs? I am interested in buying one but they are not locally imported in New Zealand, so I need to know before buying. Cheers for any light you can shed on this.

I think you can use disc brakes on the back wheel, but I don't remember any tab in the fork.
Let me check that next time I go to the bike shop.

That would be great - cheers. I have a disc fork I can swap in. Then all I need to do is talk someone into bringing me back one from overseas...
