Plum Grove Cyclery, Leesburg Virginia. I'm in West [Occupied] Virginia so it's not a very "L" LBS for me. That said, they've done warranty work on several occasions for me. They were quite cheerfull about it and otherwise treat me like they want my business. [No affiliation.]

Pedal Power in Middletown, CT :www.pedalpowerct.com
I've heard that Knapps Cyclery in Lawrenceville, NJ is really good too. https://knappscyclery.com/index.cfm
Pedal power is my LBS near college and Knapps will be my not so LBS when I'm at home. I just can't stand the lbs I have here so I think driving the half an hour to a better one is worth.

That's an easy one...
Pacific Bicycle Company...Sammamish, WA. Wonderful husband/wife shop. The salespeople were fantastic and the wrenches were equally helpful. Best experience I've had so far in the Seattle metro area.

Boulder valley...Colorado...Louisville Cyclery. Everything from a $1 tube to $5,000.00 race bikes. All from guys and gals who love bikes. (Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe because I used to work there! )
On the western slope...only two choices really...either "The Bike Shop" in Grand Junction (although a bit aloof at times) and in Fruita, "Over the Edge Sports". They seem to be more mtn. bike oriented, but then again, look where it is.

https://www.ambridgebikeshop.com/ Best bike shop in Pittsburgh and western suburbs. Awesome craftsmen. Good honest people. Very competitive prices.

I think someone needs to make one of those google map things where you can put your own pushpin on the map. Then people can rate it or as more people select the same place it earns a higher ranking. Anyone know how to do that? It'd be nice to have a master one that you BF could put a sticky for.

Track champion as a mechanic, and the owner has a 5.5kg 60cm Orca (and really knows his way around a bike)

How so? All it would be is a map showing where people say are the best LBS'. As more people agree with them they get more positive reviews. Many sites already use rating systems that I find very useful. Epinion, youtube, ebay. Sure shops could try to make their LBS have a higher ranking, but as more people wrote reviews it could become apparent what theyre really like. Besides, if a shop is terrible and doesn't care how it treats its customers at their store, I doubt they care how they treat them online.

You ask why not? because BF is a place that is EXTREMELY allergic to shills already..
In theory what you propose might work.. but I would have my reservations for such a thing to work here.. as it would quickly turn into an all out flame/shill war accusation-palooza..
perhaps not.
