Just came off a soloist team to a specialized sl 2008 model and first full carbon bike I have ever owned. I've heard stories of carbon feeling dead. The sl doesn't. It is easily as stiff as the soloist with a much better ride quality. I didn't realized what I was missing.

Mine are stiff, light and fast. I also like the look of CF frames. There....those are my reasons. Nuff' said.

Being a "Fred" I decided to exercise my option and pick a CF Fuji Professional! Since most of my riding is solo, I only need to impress myself.

You're logic for this is what exactly? Sure, i could search through the countless threads full of people *****ing, or i could just ask a straightforward question in an attempt to weigh my needs and desires against my goals.

a year ago I bought a trek 5.5 Madone, really a great bike, light, fast, snappy and a rocket up hills and quite stable down the hills, and yea the ride was great and light, the bike weighted around 15.5-16#.
My biggest problem I could not get comfortable on it, constantly fidgeting with the stem, seat fore/aft position. The geometry was just not for me,just could not get adjusted on it.
I like a 73 seat angle and a 74 head angle which seems perfect on my Waterford,so I sold the frame and
had a serotta made with same geometry, dumped the trek frame and no problems anymore.
Though I miss the weight difference,I will stick with steel.

I dont ride CF. I only like good CF frames and for me they're out of my price-range. Heck, even low end CF is outta my price range.

What year was your Soloist? When you say 2008 Spesh SL, you mean Tarmac SL2 ? Maybe you can PM me with a mini review. Ps: when I said the CF is outta my price range, it's not really outta my price range, I'm just too cheap-skate to dopr big $$$ on a bike.

Anyway... I ride a CF bike (2007 Madone 5.2) because I like it. I'll race it too.

I ride Aluminium and I ride C.F. Not a great difference in ride quality- not a great difference in weight (Only 1 lb in favour of Aluminium) Both bikes set up the same on ride position- but They ride differently. Prefer the Ally frame as it gives more feel but the C.F. climbs well. Don't know which I prefer but I had to take a preference- it would be The Boreas Ignis over the Giant TCR.

I'm material agnostic. I'll ride anything of high quality.
I have just started riding a carbon Look. Before that a steel Fondriest, and before that an Aluminum Trek.
I honestly don't feel a huge difference between the three. The steel was probably the most comfortable but only by a hair. The Trek was the heaviest. The carbon Look has a certain stiffness that I feel in the rear up through the seat stays and to the saddle. It has a hard tail, so to speak. But it is comfortable overall.
Next might be titanium out of curiosity.
