Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? i had my first track class yesterday. it was amazing. i'm so stoked. i can't wait to start racing. next week we do our first time trial. i have a slight feeling i may be the fastest in the class. it's not a competition or anything. but it kinda feels good, y'know?

OT: My geared Crosscheck (pic) is about to get pimped. I built a disc wheel for it, and am going to get a Cotic Roadrat disc fork ( https://www.cotic.co.uk/order/forks/ ) and one of those nice new Shimano mechanical road disc brakes. ( https://elitecycling.biz/page.cfm?Pag...ils&sku=BR8554 ) If I'm not feeling too poor when that's over I'll get a nitto UI-5gx stem. My current stem only has two bolts in front, so it's very hard to get it clamped down tight enough that the bars don't sag when I go off a curb. Plus the UIs are so so pretty.

Its 40 and sunny...heat wave? New saddle should be at home waiting for me. New crankset in the mail. Just mounted new tires. 4 long hours till i get to go ride. Also the extra hour of daylight might just come in handy. I just hope i don't get stuck in bike traffic like i did on the way home last night.

Yes! The fever's building! Actually, it's going to be a long time 'til I get it put together. We have a Velodrome opening here in April, so I'm looking to spare no expense. That means I might get to try it on the track sometime this summer

Here's a link to the mfr, though I'm sure you've visited many times before. It's a 62 - I'm a big boy now.

I'm sharing my cube with my Canfield Balance today and counting down until 4:30. We fire back up the local Tuesday group rides this week, thanks to the time change, and I can't wait to start riding after work with the locals again.

I'm considering switching from the wacky cruiser bars I have on my bike to drops...

Still hemming-and-hawing on whether to slap a front brake on it and change the "gearing."
BTW, I'm trying to get something going (along the lines of the word quiz) where a front brake
installed on a fixed gear simply for safety's sake is referred to as a "Barry Brake."

Barry is a lawschool classmate who would be very happy if I put a front brake on the bike. Barry also
doesn't ride home after dark, which is going a little far, but I have to admit the brake thing is fairly reasonable.
