chainring quest/vision quest
I've been searching for this for a long time, but can't seem to locate one:
Specifics:
-130 bcd
-5 arm spider
-silver (in color)
-48 tooth
-3/32" width
-MUST HAVE cutouts...I don't like the solid rocket ring style; I do like the "scalloped" cutouts or the circles that circle the middle of the crank, like an old Shimano/Campy road ring
-would prefer it is steel and am willing to spend $ for quality
I know I can get a road ring that fill all of these qualifications, but those are rarely made in 48 tooth. Hoping to avoid changing my cog size/tooth count.
I think even one year of the Bianchi Pistas came with a Truvativ ring in 48 tooth in silver. Anyone switched that out and want to send it to a new home?
Other links/suggestions appreciated.

the pistas came with a sugino ring I think since they had sugino rds and the rds normally come with that ring. You can buy them separately but they suck.

That ring is the "style" I'm after, but yeah, I'd rather spend some money and get a quality one.

Steel rings are relatively rare, usually found on older low quality bikes or granny rings. The only nice, large steel ring I know of is made by surly. I think the big rings have cutouts, but I've never seen one in person.
Here's a pic of one.

It seems to me that you simply want to spend more money yet have no good reason to do so. I suggest a twelve pack of your favorite brew and a hamburger.
Not surprisingly, the FSA chainrings are considered by many on the Roadie forum to be "not sturdy enough"; primarily because it is possible to purchase far more expensive chainrings.

Thought you and everyone else might me interested in these guys
https://cycleunderground.com.au/chainringdesigns.htm
I haven't got anything from there but they look pretty good and you get
a choice of thickness, finish and tooth counts.

The cycleunderground rings look pretty nice. Thanks for that link, Aussie friends!
Having trouble finding that Surly ring listed above. That one is 110 bcd. The Surly rings I've found in 130 bcd are solid, lacking the cutouts I'm looking for.
That TA ring...is black and is for 1/8", not 3/32".

Salsa makes a really nice 3/32 130BCD ring:

I run a 45T, ordered mine from excel sports-they have other sizes. A little expensive and tough to find, but nice.

Wow, thanks for that link! All the Salsa rings I'd seen were solid, lacking cutouts. I guess I didn't look hard enough...
Thanks, FixedDrinks!

The TA comes in silver and is a really good deal. You can always switch to a 1/8" chain.

Oh jeez...I thought my quest was over...
I was looking at this Salsa ring:
https://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?p...ajor=8&minor=5
Don't know if this is a QBP picture or not.
Okay, I'll check out the TA...yeah, could switch my chain, but mine is relatively new and I know I can mix/match, but as my cog and chain are 3/32" I'd hopefully like to avoid switching stuff.
I'm already thinking to myself, "Well...if a ring is $55...and a new crankset with a ring is only $200..." Trying to avoid doing anything more than just the chainring.
Also, what is the reason for smaller CRs not having cutouts? I'm sure there must be a functional reason, right?

That link isn't very helpful. It gives me two options: a rocket ring, which is not the style I want (lacks cutouts) and a TA ring...which someone has already suggested.

And the Sugino ring, which also has cutouts.
