Where can I find this washer?

These are the little washers that go between the little gears in the dérailleur of a mountain bike. One of those gears wasn't screwed in tightly, and it came off while I was riding it. Both washers went lost. I need to find a replacement for them, because without them, the gear will wobble around and wear out quickly. I know my old derailleur had the exact same washer, but I threw it away because I didn't think I'll need it

Best bet is to see if a shop will give you an old derailler or just the part.

On a Shimano rear derailleur there are no thrust washers on the sides of the upper jockey wheel. The wheel is supposed to float back and forth a little to make shifting smoother. There should just be the wheel ("gear") with a metal cover on both sides with a formed edge facing in and a little space on each side of the bushing.

The "metal cover on both sides" is what I'm missing. The axle is just a screw that worked its way loose after only 15 minutes of riding. Without the metal cover, the gear moves around way too much. With the cover on it does move a little, but without, the chain won't even stay on the gear it wobbles so much.

aha! this looks like what I want! Even if the pulley gear doesnt fit, the washers should work. thanks for the help, all.

edit: Are all shimano "pulley hardware" the same? Will I be OK to get any ol shimano pulley gear and have it fit?

Oops, sorry, I have to remember to tip my head back so the bifocals work and I realize that you are holding the dust covers, not the washers.

To make up for it here's a tip. Next time you put it together, use a drop of locktite on the outside of the derailleur cage where the axle threads exit (flush actually). That should be enough to keep it from unscrewing again.

Also, look into the many available pulleys, some of which may just fit yours. Or replace the whole pulley.
