Anyone ridden/heard things about a Yeti ASX

So I found a Yeti ASX locally for $600 with a Fox DHX 5.0, cranks, and a seat post. While this seem to be a pretty good deal, I just wanted to know if anyone had been on one and what they thought or had a friend who'd been on one. My biggest concern is that it might be to much bike for what I ride. I really like to rip downhill and have a few good shuttled trails but most of the trails I ride do have some pedaling to the top.

It's an 07. Doesn't say want crank or seatpost but I e-mailed him about going to look at it.

Here's a picture of it. The seat is slammed so I can't see the post and the cranks look to be Shimano, possibly Saints.

I owned an '05 and loved it to pieces. It carried me to two state championships and the Masters Worlds. It was my first grassroots sponsorship ride. As it was my only bike, it was my DH racer, Super-D weapon, trail bike, occasional X-C bike and rail-trails-with-my-wife bike. It did everything. I cannot say enough good things about the AS-X. The only reason I sold it was because I had to in order to move on to the next phase of my racing.

For an '07 that's an acceptable buy but not a screaming deal. To the OP - - make sure you get the niggling things like the headset reducer and maybe the saddle thrown in. You want that WTB saddle; and if the seller isn't getting another Yeti, he/she may as well let it go with the bike.

To lend perspective, I sold mine a couple years ago as a whole bike (albeit with some things others might not be so crazy about: RST fork and Avid BB&s) sans pedals for IIRC $1,300.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go for it. Seems like a good deal. I might ask him to drop the price because I don't really want the cranks. Although any one have opinions on Holzfellers versus Hones? Maybe I'll sell the ones I have now. Although the hard part now is trying to round up the money I need. One final question though, a 6 inch fork would be fine on this bike?

The AS-X was really designed around a 6" fork originally (since 7" single crowns were rare or nonexistent at the time) I ran 7" and 8" DC forks, which slackened it out perfectly (I thought) for DH racing.

Here is Yeti's link to the complete '07 owners manual in PDF:
https://www.yeticycles.com/11_Support...sManualASX.pdf
Page 5 has the geometry to expect with what fork/A-to-C heights.

Good luck. Post up some pics when you get it built. And get onto Yetifan.com. It's your resource for all things Yeti and connecting with a world full of other AS-X owners.

That's a sweet looking bike Dm! Looks light enough to do everything you said you did with it reasonably well.

Hey! Are those highrollers I see!

^^ I really like High Rollers. First season I had some, I put them on for the first race here at Beacon, because it's such a buff, pedally course. Liked them so well I left 'em on and never put the Minions on all season. I had Maxxis for 3 seasons and really loved the DHF/DHF combo. Now I get to learn tires all over again.

It was a real pig on paved rail trails . But I loved riding it anyway; and it climbed adequately trail riding until I had to lose the three rings and go to a full-time CG.

Doug, what the heck. When did you make the switch to Kenda?

Excavators, Doug, Excavators.

Switched last week. I had to - - season was close to starting and I hadn't heard back from Maxxis. They are having major cutbacks in their bicycle division. I got antsy and applied to Kenda a couple weeks ago.

I should have picked your brain; but I think I did right anyway. A pair of Excavator 2.5s and a pair of Nevegal 2.5s are on the way. I almost got one 2.4 Telonix to try on the back for really loose stuff but I'll leave that for the next go-'round. All Stick-E rubber DH casing.

You'll like the Excavators, the nevegal is a love it/hate it tire but I do like them for a mix of soft/hardpack. The one set I wish I was able to try was the El Mocos, supposed to be good in loose/wet.

Right now I'm trying to decide if I stick with Continental Mountain Kings, which I love or get another set of Excavators.
