The BF Guide Awesomeness
After reading the various posts over the years, I have come to realize that in order to be a fantastic racer and rider, one must adhere to the following rules.
1. Always talk down to someone who is new or needs help.
2. Purchase the most expensive gear you possibly can, and demean others who do the same. Because who on Earth could possibly need a really expensive crank when you yourself just purchased $2,000 wheels!
3. Train with Zipp 808's and race with Zipp 303's because it's more important to look serious when you train, than it is to actually be serious when you race.
4. Use the most aggressive position you possibly can on your bike because it's more important to look fast than to have a fit that actually works for you.
5. Whenever someone wants to reduce weight on their bike, chastise them and tell them they should lose weight instead.
6. Talk like you race all the time, but don't actually race....ever.
7. Always post comments like 'correct' or 'incorrect' because they are full of substance and meaning and are most useful.
8. Never buy Trek or Cervelo because 'everyone else owns those bikes'. This means they can't possibly be that great.
9. Whenever someone wants advice on something specific, always recommend something totally different.
10. Never acknowledge another rider, because you are too busy training for the Tour de France.
I just don't understand why this place is full of so much biting sarcasm and elitism. It never used to be this bad a few years ago. It really is a shame that the first instinct is to yell 'shill' or 'troll' at someone, rather than assess what exactly is going on, first.

Not even to forget this has nothing to do with racing. If the moderators aren't asleep at the switch this should get locked or at least moved.

I applies equally well in both, I feel. I would repost in it road, too, but then everyone would whine about double posting.

If you really think about it, many of these items apply very well. Next time pay attention when someone posts their bike photo. I guarantee some fool will come up with 'flip it' or make a comment about the chain in the wrong position, or how something does not match.
It all seems so superficial and focused on who can look the best, rather than building someone up, or even, *gasp* being polite.

I understand SS. Sometimes, however, maybe, just maybe, some posts may be just sarcasm with no real harm intended. We don't need to get our bibs all up in a wad. But we can set examples if we don't like what we see.

OP - chill out. this is a very helpful forum that is also fun/not as serious as the wattage board or cyclingforums power forum. I've met bunches of folks from here and am even team mates with a couple of guys whose acquaintence was made through this forum. Also, bunches of newbs have jumped on here and I'll bet many are better bicyclists and bike racers because of that, in part anyway.
If you dont like it here, post elsewhere. that's pretty simple, yeah?

HTFU. The people that find this subforum useful are the ones who went from nonracer to racer, think wanders, rtc, bdcheung, SushiJoe, me, etc.
The words & attitudes here can be harsh but so is bike racing & race training. And most people here will recommend a Caad9 w/ Rival & OP's before a $4K setup, think race what you can replace.
Btw, most people here do race, need to lose weight, & need to ride in an aggressive position.
Take this crap to Road Cycling or Foo.
