not so much. His holding company, Olympus SARL, has all of the riders contracted to it.. in addition to the equipment sponsors (trek, sram, etc.) and everything else.
Astana just has the protour license.. other than that everything is Johans.

More detail:
"Bruyneel’s holding company, the Belgium-based Olympus sarl, owns the team buses and support cars, negotiates the equipment sponsor deals and holds the legal rights on contracts with riders and staff. It’s the sporting side of the equation."
- from bicycling.com
The Kazakh national cycling federation owns the protour license and has the coalition of Kazakh companies that fund the team.

hmmm... I dont know, all Johan needs is a protour license. 5 teams expire this year, isn't any team with Lance, Johan, and a bigtime sponsor pretty much guaranteed?

I thought Cervelo was wild carded from the Pro Continental ranks? Can't any team that can pay the fees become a Pro Cont. team and then go looking for the invites? Even without a ProTour license I suspect JB/LA's team would be invited to just about anything they would like to participate in.

The moment LA un-retired this move was obvious. It also sheds some light on JB's state of mind and his decision making in this Tour.
I called this one last week (not that it took a rocket surgeon to see it coming ).

The ProTour license that LA/JB will aquire will Astana's old one. There is now way that they will let this team continue after all the money issues that have transpired this season. Vino will be left with nothing more than some fugly kit.

Sounds like JB's holding company probably owns that too...

Even if JB can't take the current Astana license, there are two unclaimed licenses out there. If he can secure the funding that he needs, he can certainly get one of those. And if not, well, being pro-continental isn't much of a handicap if you have the right riders. And JB will have the right riders.

I have a hard time seeing a new major sponsor signing on to Bruystrong with only one more sure year of Lance being a rider, unless it's Trek or Nike just writing a bigger check. I'm surprised AFLD hasn't manufactured more non-news regarding Armstrong'd drug tests.

You get one year of absolutely the best coverage any cycling team will ever get... and then after that you have the core management that has had the most successful cycling teams of the last decade.. If any cycling team has a chance of landing a major sponsor, its this one. They just need to add a sprinter/classics guy or two and they are set.

I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that LA pulled the plug on his side of the Tailwind investment when they couldn't find a new sponsor for 2007.
bonus question answer - Tailwind had contracts with Contador, Hincapie, Leipheimer, Popvytch...

out walking the earth
And wasn't at least two of those guys (3 if you ask Liggett) touted to be GT winners...
hmmmm
So, they're sure to get a sponsor now post Lance without AC, and with Levi shorter, balder and several years older?
