Really? Ever been to Finland? He has a good point, even Davis California or Portland Oregon are hardly the bike-smart towns that the cities in Finland are. Now personally I have only been to Oulu (and Davis and Portland) so I can't tell you what all the cities in Finland are like, but Oulu is beyond anything I have ever seen in the US, as far as bike friendly goes.
We Americans don't even come close in our "bike friendly" cities.

I thought of Santa Rosa, CA (Levi ) and Austin, TX (Lance). Then I remembered Austin tends to hot and flat compared to Santa Rosa. Levi choose to be here because of the cycling. In minutes you are out of town and into vineyards and hills.

Now this is not to say that all pickup drivers are jerks... but in Texas, there does tend to be some animosity toward those that appear different, and those narrow two lane back country farm roads have a marked 70MPH speed limit.
