Can Anyone ID This Frameset?

I have mostly ridden as a roadie, so not that familiar with MTB. Recently got this bike from original owner's relative. Relative had no history on bike except that parts had been customized over the years. Can anyone ID or give a good guess on the aluminum frameset?
Thanks.

No idea, really.

That gusset on the downtube at the head seems familiar.

I also notice what appears to be a true Horst link.

KHS, Jamis and Iron Horse all had generic looking horst-link frames in the late 90s and early 00s.

Thanks for everyone's input so far....I do believe the frame dates from about 2001-2002.
