Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?

I think this is from the same event, but it's been a while. Sorry about the sound -- I taped over the mic to keep the wind noise down:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4lzazL_jvc

Here's another one, at an Evolution school, with wind noise. Six of one, half-dozen of the other, I guess:
https://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v2...rent=MyRun.flv

I've begun to think that, to enjoy my car again, I need to race it more. Being stuck in traffic is just too aggravating (which makes riding the bike in town that much more enjoyable ). Even autocrossing lets me wring its neck, and unlike a road circuit, a spin at FedEx Field only means that I knock over some cones instead of being forced to bum a ride back to DC with my tumbled-up Civic on a flatbed.

Outdoor lover does not necessarily mean environmentalist. I love the outdoors, and although I try to reduce my carbon footprint, I would not qualify as an environmentalist.

Lexus Rx400h Hybrid. My average mileage this summer was 32.5 mpg for a fairly big SUV that can haul several bikes and my boat. It is also the faster car I have ever owned - when the electric motors kick in, this thing is a rocket.

my simple little minivan does the trick for me, she may not be fast or sexy but she gets my babies around.

I do not have fancy cars - never had. My philosophy, no payments.

I am married with kids and nephews and friend kids. Toyota Previa with a Tacoma 4 X 4 drive train and yes manual and HILO range.

I have horses too so, ancient 1977 Ford f250 with a 12v cummins diesel also 4X4 with a diff lock. Get's better mileage than most SUV's and can pull. Currently with us, my father in law's F250 modern diesel but since it is an auto me and my wife rarely drive it.

I really do not understand 4X4 with no HL range why bother.

Daily driver ford festiva with a Subaru engine manual. Get's better mileage than a Jetta Diesel. I also have a Vanagon that I need to replace the engine.

2002 Mazda protege LX automatic with a hitch. It's a beater, it runs funny when its cold, but it keeps on running and is paid for. Can't wait to join the cool kids with subies someday.

To all Forester owners, can you fit your bike in the trunk when the rear seat is down? Kinda like what bianchi girl did....

The below used to be my daily driver, now that I have a son to pick up from daycare everyday, it sits in the garage until its sold . I'll miss her

Hehehehe...

Well, to go from 2 liters to 2.4, get "real VTEC" instead of the economy version on mine (high-lift intake cam lobe vs. just opening the other exhaust valve), and gain around 60 hp/40 ft-lbs, all while keeping that Honda reliability -- it's a good swap to make.

I should've jumped on a "train wreck" TSX engine when I had the chance. There was a train loaded with new TSXs a few years ago that had an accident and the cars got bumped around. They couldn't be sold as new, but were too nice to scrap completely, and parts dealers got a hold of them. The engines & transmissions -- with ZERO miles, mind you -- were being sold for a pittance. I think they all ended up in Civics of various eras (maybe a couple CRXs, too).

Nice rides, my "other transport" is an old Explorer sport that's used to haul tools and materials for work, and occasionally bikes on the extremely rare occasions that I don't feel like biking to a ride.

I did love my Civic, but after the baby was born I realized it was waaaaay too small.

The only thing I wouldn't like about it if/when I ever have a kid would be that it's a 2-door. Having to crawl in back to manage a baby seat is a hassle. I'd move to a Civic sedan if I had to -- and get the Si model with the fast engine. I can't understand why I'd need a minivan or an SUV unless I had a litter of kids. My parents never owned anything bigger than a Plymouth Valiant, and they handled me and my sister just fine.

I saw a new Insight in black driving on my street a couple days ago. I don't particularly care for the other colors I've seen on it, but the black looked surprisingly nice. The rain might've had something to do with it, though.
