Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Busted a hip when I should have busted a move.

What happens when you combine gravity, wet leaves and a 56 year old on a ladder, you guessed it a fall. And what happens when the same 56 year old falls off of the ladder, he does a number on his left hip. Guess who’s off the bike for at least 12 weeks, the same 56 year old. I’ve traded in my Colnago for a very sporty walker, talk about feeling old. With any luck I’ll see you all out on the roads come Spring.

Sorry to hear that. At least you did it in the colder months. When you recover, you can get out in the warmer months. Best of luck on your recuperation.

Having busted a hip in a manner a bit more related to this forum (in a bike race). I can only advise you to listen to your doc, and ask a lot of questions. My doc put high importance on not weighting the affected leg for at least 6 weeks (maybe longer). My recollection is that it can possibly have an impact on whether you end up with necrosis later. I didn't, at least not yet; and it's been 4.5 years since my injury. Part of this is luck from what I've been told, but any chance to minimize this possibility is worth the effort.

Hopefully you can get back on a stationary bike or trainer before 12 weeks. Good luck.

You should consider physical therapy. It has helped me a lot to recover from muscles that had atrophied and loss of flexibility as I recovered from being hit by a car. PT is great.

Now the good part of being laid up is that I have an excuse for being on BF all the time.

The Colnago is my inspiration to heal. I'm going to get a set of Colnago stickers to go on the walker, that should make it faster

He said 56 year old, not just old. If I keep riding strong, I don't expect to feel old when I'm 56.

Are you sure that wasn't an acetabulum fracture? That's the hip socket which is much more complicated than what most people call a "hip fracture"?

YIKES!!! You've got so much stainless in there, that I can't even see the joint....

Drywall screws, wire, and plumbers straps!!!!!!

Heal soon, and well. And, listen to the Physical Therapists - no pain, no gain......

Man, I really feel for you!!!!!!

It's titanium. I have a complete set myself as the result of a similar fracture and it matches my Litespeed frame.
