Lake shoes has made a very bad first impression - SITUATION RESOLVED

You should reread what I actually said, which is that I did contact Lake, because what was I going to do otherwise. I never suggested I was going to trash the shoes. I made a hyperbolic statement implying doing that would be dumb
At any rate I'll update when lake responds. It's wild to me how many people have seemingly never been mad about something stupid before lol.

You did say you were considering it and yes maybe hyperbolic still not "pretty reasonable". Generally that statement is something I would make if I was potentially a little less than reasonable or being way too snarky which I have been guilty of once or twice.
I have been mad about stupid things plenty of times but I haven't been mad at something like this without getting a resolve from the company before posting about it. If I do say something it will usually be someone I know close by or a friend on the phone but I don't go public till such time is deemed necessary which would be if the company never responded despite my follow ups or the company said "screw you, buddy" after they made the error.
However I will note generally these days I am trying to keep a more even keel to myself and not work up too often. Keep a positive mental attitude, I am not perfect but I do try to a decent degree.

I did re-read what you actually said and that is why the material I put in my post was actually what you wrote (not copy and pasted just retyped)

So, is it an isolated incident or is it not uncommon for online stores to do this?

EDIT: I will admit jumping to that as my original suspicion was probably unwarranted, regardless of how common or how much of a leap it actually is.

Hope it's resolved successfully. Most places I've dealt with have resolved wrong item issues reasonably well, but a few were remarkably difficult.
The only other comment I'll make is many of the responses to you came across on my screen as "This message is hidden because _____ is on your ignore list."

Lake sent me mx169s... Same last, but cheaper materials and lace instead of boa. I'm sure they probably ran out of stock and just sent me something else hoping it'd be ok, but it's not, they didn't contact me, didn't offer me a refund to order the shoe they had in stock, nothing.
It seems really obvious to me that they simply shipped the wrong shoe by mistake and the reason they didn’t contact you is that they were unaware of their mistake.
Lake is a reputable company. Their normal strict returns policy doesn’t apply when they send the wrong item. They will sort it out if you are patient and nobody on an online forum cares whether or not you deal with them again.

I actually recognize the guy now, from another post about bike choice for high-mass riders ......
Anyway, I hope the shoes fit, when you get them.

Online retailers shipping the wrong thing is a common thing. If they shipped something you did not order, then they have to issue a refund if requested, How much of a project this may be, is really the test of their "customer service". I just ordered a bunch of fishing lures from DSG cause they were BOGO, and they sent the wrong ones for a portion (similar names for similar items) so it's either a listing issue or a picking issue. They said keep the ones they sent, and the right ones are on the way. I'm thinking may be receiving the wrong ones again, but they are good too, so no rant here. Same with plumbing fittings, I have a bunch of things from a big online supply house that needs some training at the warehouse.

Pretty sure Lake will want the shoes back if they haven't been worn .... but for a lot of retailers, return shipping is more then eating the loss for a mis-pick. My wife shops Temu and they often tell her, "Keep it and we will send the right one" because the stuff is so cheap and the profit margins so low, reselling the item would actually cost more.

I realize I was far too cynical with my initial thinking. Ive had a lot of issues with my bike over the last couple weeks and it's been a battle to just keep it ridable. So getting the wrong shoe was honestly just the straw that broke the camels back.

For future reference, the FTC does not state that you get to keep an item if the seller ships the wrong item to you.

Lake has emailed me a return label and is processing through shipping to send me the right shoes. I have to say, they got back in less than 24 hours which is impressive on its own. Like I've already said my original reaction wasn't really reasonable. Glad to see my cynicism at times isn't reality most of the time.

I've always found that if there is no or a poor response, go straight to the owners.
It is remarkable how things get fixed fast.

Yeah their customer service is crazy good. They've already shipped the new shoes and refunded my shipping costs of the original order. Definitely top notch.

"By law, companies can’t send unordered merchandise to you, then demand payment. That means you never have to pay for things you get but didn’t order. You also don’t need to return unordered merchandise. You’re legally entitled to keep it as a free gift."

In my situation it was about convincing them to play nice and do the right thing.
BTW at the time of initial delivery, they were already legally required to have cancelled my order and issue a refund.
