we started the ride NEAR A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER - and then made the slow ascent up the mountain to the rapids and waterfalls

Must be something in the water. Was 6’ 2.5” and now 6’ 1”. I can hear the bones in my neck creak when I turn my head at times as I have lost cushioning.

I went for a mtb ride on Friday.
Today I rode around the neighborhood. Hang gliders launch from the top of this hill and they have a landing area here with facilities.

I use an ultralight Pactimo rain jacket for cold descents. Fits easily in a jersey pocket, cuts out all wind, holds out the rain (mostly).
The water repellance was a lifesaver on Saturday, when I got dumped on descending the lower part of Hamilton. At least my torso and arms were dry.

I got a Castelli Squadra jacket some time ago on a whim. It is super packable and has elastic material in it, so it fits closely to the body, so it is warmer than it looks.
I haven't tried it's water repellency yet ... I'm not expecting much in that regard!

My first decent bike ride in my new city Greenville, SC. 27 hilly miles on a 1x1 Surly Lowside certainly put me to the test. It was TOUGH in spots. (Moved away from New Orleans, LA. Lost out nerve for hurricanes. Rebuilt the house one too many times.
