We had an exciting late afternoon yesterday. Big noisy thunderstorm with enough hail to coat roofs, fortunately only the size of frozen baby peas. But not green. Lightning got within a mile or so based on delay. Poor Dory was so freaked out she actually crapped herself. Luckily it was on the wood floor and not at all...messy. Easy to pick up. I ended up holding her tightly on my lap while she panted and shivered (Mrs. GJ was off doing her Queen of the Altar Guild gig for a 7PM service). We rarely get thunderstorms and we haven't had one like this as long as I've been here, which is over 42 years now.
Rango slept through the whole thing. Never even raised his head, even when the thunder was really loud. Mr. Nonchalant.

I dated a girl in college whose family lived down the street from an AM radio tower. When you tried to tune in a station on the radio, when you touched any part of the radio, that AM station was all you'd hear, but when you took your fingers off it, you could hear the station you were going for. So you had to move the knob, take your finger off, listen, move the knob, take your finger off, listen, move the knob, take your finger off, listen until you were satisfied. Then the same thing for the volume.

I drove down to San Jose yesterday to pick up my frame(s) and fork. When I got home, I was so excited I launched right into the rebuild. Then I realized a couple things: 1) Even though I have a nice new set of Corsas to put on it, I don't have any tubes that aren't already either in tires or designated as spares, and 2) I have no black bar tape. So, I got this far and stopped.
While I wait for the tubes and tape to arrive, I have a couple things to figure out. First - what handlebar? It originally came with a 40cm Cinelli Giro d'Italia bar, but I also have a 44 cm Soma Highway One, which is a much better fit for me. Second, can I get the saddle height I need with the original seatpost? I might be a cm low, and that's a lot, especially with 170mm cranks. Third, what saddle? I have the Rolls that came with the 22" bike, but I also have a Fizik Aliante VSX, and a gray Avocet O2 Air 40R I picked up a couple months back. Fourth, what color cable housing? The catalog SEEMS to show gray. I built up the 22" frame with white.
Here's the best scan of the catalog that I can find, unfortunately fairly low res.

Was supposed to rain this morning but the sun was breaking through so I went out around the neighborhood and came home when the clouds started gathering.
Hang gliders launch from the top of that hill and I saw what looked like glare from a vehicle but no gliders took off.
There is a little dam on a catch basin and from the top I can see clouds coming through the pass so I headed home.

Once you get it built, I want you to model it like the guy in the magazine. Show us how fast it really is.

My 90 year old dad is having ongoing back problems due to degenerative disease of his spine. He sees some type of specialist for periodic injections that give pretty good relief.
Anyway, his back started acting up and causing more pain a week ago. He saw the specialist and is scheduled for another injection in late April.
He complained to me that his pain was worse....he cannot take NSAIDS due to being on a blood thinner and Tylenol was not helping enough. He HATES the way he feels on pain medicine like tramadol or oxycodone, so I suggested he could ask his primary care or back specialist for a short course of prednisone to see if that gives him some relief to last until he gets his injection.
I called him on Wednesday and he told me they were sending in a script. Great.
I asked on Thursday and he told me the prescription would cost him out of pocket $600. And he has good insurance. I suggested this did not make sense, and he get some clarification or ask them to send in something generic.....finally he got them to send in a script for generic prednisone which cost him $1.50 for 30 pills. He did not even get the medicine until Saturday due to the delay in changing the script.
I don't know for sure, but best guess is the physician or pharmacist put in for a script of this ripoff product called "Rayos," it's a brand-only extended-release prednisone. It really has no value to patients other than to rip them off. It costs $3000 for 30 pills at 5mg. I suspect my dad's insurance covers 80% so the 20% co-insurance on 3K is where the $600 comes from.
This reveals an ugly part of our healthcare system. There are several drugs out there that have been approved by the FDA which are total ripoffs, they offer no real advantage over the existing medicines they copy, but instead of costing $5-10 for a month, they cost thousands of dollars.
Rayos is one example. Another example is Vimovo, which is a combination of naproxen and nexium. The idea is the acid blocker in nexium reduces stomach injury from the naproxen.
The cost of two separate scripts of naproxen and generic nexium would be about $10/month. The cost of Vimovo is $2800/month. It's crazy.
/end rant

Happy Easter. I have found a weird but effective remedy for shin splints. Sit in a chair and, with your toes, trace out the alphabet twice each foot. Yesterday I felt fantastic when I woke up. No shin pain at all. I did my zwift workout and decided to get in a run. And promptly pulled my left groin. I struggled through the run anyway, that sucked. Ffs.... no shin pain though.

Don’t get me started on the filter. You can say some words that may be inflammatory if you apply them to a person, but you can’t say **** sapiens. It’s clearly ******** (stupid) but if I push too hard I anger the gods/mods, so I cannot be too subversive.
