Where did you ride in Southern California today?

Does this lexus commerical kind of annoy you? Yes, it's kind of putting cycling in a good light. I like the fact that she biking on some roads near where I bike(Sanmos and PCH). But does anyone bike with a spousal entourage? No one does this right? First it's unsafe for cars trying to pass from behind. Second it's a waste of gas. Third it defeats of solace of biking by yourself. Fourth it makes it seem like even motivated/strong women need 'protection' when biking.

LOL, these commercials out to give the "take the lane" crowd priapisms. I sure hope this doesn't become a thing, following one's spouse in a car, especially on all day rides. What does this clown do when traffic starts piling up behind him? Oh that's right other people aren't real in this narcissistic little "I love you honey" world they live in.

Up Rock Store, piece of Mulholland down to Little Sycamore, back up the stingers and eventual descent into Westlake. A bit smoky in the hills today. 32 miles to complete an 80+ mile week.

Yeah, there's no gate, but rather a movable sign/barrier blocking the eastbound lane that you can just simply ride around
The road itself is in great condition and no obstructions exist. There are a few sections that narrow to a single lane, but w no cars, that's a non-issue
As far as ticketing: technically the road is closed to cars and bikes, except for residents. I won't go into too much detail, but have it on pretty good authority that it's highly unlikely a cyclist would be ticketed and that it's probably preferable (from a safety standpoint) that you ride on Mulholland w no cars than on PCH.
Of course, I can't guarantee anything

Meandered my way around Whittier Hills, Diamond Bar, Chino Hills and La Habra Heights to the tune of 60+ miles and 6500 ft of climb. Started foggy and ended up sunny. Turnbull Cyn is busy but few other riders elsewhere. I'm in a rut and need to branch out to other areas now that the smoke/smog is less.

Wife & I were in Cathedral City for the weekend. Hit the road at 0 dark thirty to beat the heat. Fri wound our way south thru R M, Palm Desert & La Quinta down to Lake Cahuilla for a rest stop then wound our way back.
Sat. headed north up Indian Cyn Rd. and were greeted with a beautiful sunrise crossing over the 10 fwy on Wall St. Up to Pierson then through Desert Hot Springs, down to Dillon Rd. then a fun long descent on 1000 Palms Cyn Rd to Ramon Rd then back to the resort.
Drank plenty of water!

Went up Mulholland today. The satellite dishes were kinda cool. From an enjoyment experience, not much different than the other climbs, though it was fantastic nonetheless. Harder than Encinal which is my go to(cause it feels the easiest). Saw only one truck drive down. No other cars no other bikes. The solitude was amazing. Not sure why it's closed. There's no construction or debris or hazards that I could appreciate. Thanks for alleviating my concern to bypass the no go sign. Kinda cool that this 7 mi uninterrupted climb can be experienced by any cyclist away from the crowds for free which is adjacent to the LA megalopolis.
My ride:
- Distance: 53.70m
- Moving Time: 3:54:30
- Climb: 6,745 ft
- Up Latigo, Down Encinal/Decker, Up Mulholland, Down Latigo, Up a little bit of Latigo again

Nice! What time were you on the climb? I rode it yesterday as well. I started the climb around 10:15. Great day for a ride

doubt that we get much rain this winter but if we do, could make a mess out of the lower part of the road. it would be fantastic if that section of the road remained closed and just existed,
esssentially, as a bike path in the mtns. a lot less maintenance for the county when there are other adjacent roads (decker/yerba buena) performing the same function for autos.
don't remember there being too many access roads to private residences along that lower, western stretch of mully. pipe dreaming on a monday.

glad you did it! would we steer you wrong? *rhetorical question...don't answer it* dunno how long they are going to keep the "road closed" signs up...hopefully at least through the spring.

good news...a short, 28-spot. bad news...palomar mountain south grade. much ouch. hasn't gotten easier...even with a 3 lbs lighter bike
vs last effort up that hill. doesn't help that there's now 15 lbs more on the personal chassis vs then. quiet day up there early afternoon.
not much traffic. pavement on ca hwy 76 newish and really nice. pavement on the south grade rd? not so much. the descent full of chatter.
needs a serious repaving. the general store up at the s6/s7 junction open today at 2:53pm (it was closed during the week last visit in first week of august).
meant to check current hours but was too destroyed to remember my middle name at that point.
psa...if you're silly enuff to hit south grade of palomar...and/or the area, park in the south lot of harrah's casino behind the travelmart/gas station. parked today
on the first street south of the casino...there were zero parking regulation signs and plenty of shoulder so i felt okay parking there. tribal police officer came up as i was
packing up to leave and said it was private property and that it was okay to park behind the travelmart/gas station.

Started out at 8 in the fog....which, as it turns out, was wet fog! Glasses instantly useless but being I need them to see, that's a problem. Light drizzle continued in our area and I decided it wasn't worth the trouble when I can ride any day. (yeah, retirement is great). Instead of the 30-40 miles I intended, finished with 11. Oh well...got some time Thursday morning for another shot at it. Hear the weekend could be a bit wet and overcast.

topanga canyon road aka/dba ca hwy 27. yes...technically the range extends east of the 405 fwy (and the hollywood hills have some gnarly bleeping short climbs) but west of the 405 is where it is
laid bare for all and it's a climbfest/descentfest. dive in. my fave area in all of socal to ride and i don't think i'm alone in that assessment. bring your climbing bike/gears unless you're just doing pch.

3rd ride since the accident. The wife and I did a slow 11 mile round trip from the house to Seal Beach. She's just beginning again too, so after one more of these we'll be stretching the mileage down to Bolsa Chica and back. My legs feel great because we were doing daily 5 mile walks while I was off the bike. Now it's just getting the lungs and rear end to feel comfortable again.

48 slow miles and 2800 ft of climb into an off shore breeze on the north SGRT with a slow leak flat from a staple in my rear tire. Man I'm dragging today. Whoops the rear tire is getting squishy. Pace picked up after the tube change. Looking forward to Sunday's ride with air in the tires.
