Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Dual freewheel???

Hey Guys & Gals! Is it possible to put a 16t freewheel gear on one side and 14t freewheel on the other? This would allow me to flip the gears. I would have two chains for each freewheel set.

White Industries sells a freewheel that has 2 cogs on it called the DOS ENO freewheel. There are two options, either 17/19 or 20,22. If you calculate the gear ratio range that you want you can get a front chainring to get as close to if you had 16/14 since gear ratios are proportionate to tooth count of chainring and cog. To calculate your gear ratio divide front chain ring with rear cog.

Thanks cs007! I currently have a flipflop wheelset with 16t freewheel & 15t fixed cog. Want to change the 15t fixed to a 14t freewheel

16t is the smallest freewheel that will fit on your hub...

Thanks IAmSam! Pure Cycles guy suggested a certain 14t freewheel that I purchased but haven’t taken the time to try. It looks like a tight fit. Just had the thought of putting it on the fixed side. Gonna pull the wheel off tomorrow and see if the threads are correct and fit it will actually fit. Will let you guys know what happens.

14T freewheels will only fit on flip-flop bmx hubs, which have 110mm spacing.

And different threading too - so be careful trying to force your 14t FW on HLaudio...

16t is the smallest freewheel you can fit on a standard hub track fixed gear hub. A bmx flip flop hub has standard threads on one side. The other side is threaded for metric freewheels which range from 13t-15t. Your 14t freewheel will not fit on your fixed hub. In theory you could install a longer axle on a bmx flip flop hub and space it to fit a 120mm spaced frame, but this seems more trouble than it’s worth. Just work out the gear ratio you need using a 16t or larger freewheel.

Hey! Thanks guys! For the comments and suggestions. Had to delay my bike work for a few days...90 yr old father-in-law has returned home from back surgery rehab. Will try to pick this up come Tuesday. H
