Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No. I don’t think that is common for bike shops to install air tags on bikes for sale.

Aluminum Cannondale is a total loss though he might salvage a part here and there. Helmet is crushed.
Helmets. What a massive step forward. I have broken three of them. The last resulted in a concussion similar to your friend’s, apparently. I was foggy for a good while, and uncomfortable on a bike for much longer than that. Frankly, I’m still foggy but I don’t know whether to attribute it to head injuries (I’ve had a few), covid, or simple old age

He did NOT get it back. But it was insured for $8k so he used insurance money to buy a new bike.

80*. 71% humidity. Feels like 85. Going out shortly. Forecast says a high of only 91. Guess I was wrong yesterday. It was 100 when I wrote it. 91 is quite liveable.

More catchup for those following, my friend who crashed 2 weeks ago is much better. He had his cast switched out for a brace (broken wrist got plate/screws), his brain fog only lasted a few days. He had planned to do a major bike tour in early May and as of now we think that might still be possible. He is cleared to ride a trainer/indoor bike.

I bought a used pair of Keen closed toe sandals yesterday, for cycling only. Size 13, from fb marketplace. I currently wear a 10 in both Teva and Chacos. My feet are very wide, so I frequently by a size or two bigger for the width. My big concern yesterday was too much length, but surprisingly they are less than an inch longer than my size tens. Weird wild stuff!

I'm always surprised how many fail to grasp that, and then they pay what we call The A**hole Tax.

Took the stock Forekasters off my MTB and threw on a Rekon Race front (2.4) and Ikon rear (2.2). Just seated the tires, added sealant and cruised around the block. So much faster on pavement and hardpack. On my hardtail, I found the Rekon Race a little too squirrelly up front for when it was techy, we'll see how this goes. On the Full Suspension I have so much more grip and am more planted... it might be fine. Raining over this weekend so it won't be till mid/late next week before I know.

Headed out to a local hammer ride. I'm on a self-prescribed rest week (rode enough last week to need it) but I feel fresh as a daisy. Gonna go by feel and not force it (yeah right)

Not looking great here for tomorrow. Or next week, for that matter.

In my case, it was upper 20s F. Still waiting to go over 40º.

Not really any other P/1/2 hitters on the ride, so I took the sprints and climbs on the route without too much trouble. AP at the bottom of z2, so mostly chill in between instead of lining it out the whole time

Ideal cycling conditions here, maybe I'll get out for a ride in a minute.

Tomorrow I think the road up South Mountain is closed to cars all day but I didn't bring my hill climb bike with me. I still have the Basso down here and some parts bins down here so maybe there's a 9-sp MTB cassette I could put in the Basso, 39x34 would still be a higher gear than I like for that climb but way better than 39x26 that's on there now.

Hmm. Wednesday looks soggy, but Tuesday is promising. Next week's Humpday Hamilton ride may move to Tuesday. Plan accordingly.

Dang I forgot about the Cannondale! Hate the bars and the levers on it, and worst tyres ever but it definitely has the grinding up hills gearing...

wore down a ton of old Rubino Pro models and tires over the years, esp in college. A great value tire in the mid-late 2000's
