Differences between Shimano Ultegra 6700 vs Dura Ace 9700 Components
Hi,
I'm new to the site. I was wondering what were the differences between the two other than the weight. Regarding the shifters, derailleurs and brakes.
Regards,
Jim

Well, among other things, Dura Ace 9000 is an 11-speed group while Ultegra 6700 is 10-speed so there are major differences in shifters, cassettes and chains. The DA 9000 crank is an asymmetric 4-arm design using a unique bolt circle and chainrings. Shimano claims refinements for the 9000 series derailleurs and brakes but I don't know if they are backward compatible to 6700 at all.

Thanks for the information. The 2013 is indeed an 11-speeed but I was reffering to the 2012 Dura-Ace 9700 is a 10-speed. On a performance level, what are the differences between the 2012 Ultegra 6700 vs 2012 Dura-Ace 9700 componenets?
Thanks
Thanks

It's mostly weight and bling. Functionally they're going to work the same.

ultegra: excellent
dura ace: even better
difference: tighter tolerances, higher standard of manufacturing, maybe some ti, maybe made in japan vs malaysia
can you tell the difference? nope.

Sorry about that guys! I was typing a little too fast and put 9700 instead of 7900. Thanks for the information. The only befenit I guess would be the weight, I was told that the 6700 Ultegra is pretty much the 7800 Dura-Ace... I read that the 7900 shifters were going to be smoother but how much more smoother can you get as the 6700 is pretty spot-on!
Thanks

Lightens your wallet. Chasing the very top level is the land of diminishing return.

Whoever told you that is completely incorrect. Ultegra 6700, like 7900 Dura Ace, was completely redesigned with both cables running under the bar tape, a new brake hood shape, mechanically different in regard to the shifters (more "positive" feel), different cable pull ratio on the brakes/levers, etc etc. Obviously, the Dura Ace version is lighter weight.
